View Full Version : Strange USB transfer problems, only large movie files don't copy. (S3 IS)

Hi guys,

I quite like my S3, bought yesterday. I'll cut to the chase. Sofar copying small movies and images from the camera to the PC works fine. Large movies however (>= 500MB), while playing perfectly on the camera, don't transfer from cam to pc properly. I get no 'copy progress' bar (I simply use explorer, no cam software installed) and after a while a file of 0kB is on my harddisk! I'm using a normal (no signs of uber / turbo) Kingston 2GB SD card.

I have tried:
- different USB ports
- different cable
- USB set to 1.1 speed in bios
- my phone 1GB mmc card

The problem persisted. Though I only made 50 ish photo's, they all seemed to transfer without errors, and a 250MB movie also worked. Just bigger files don't work.

However! If I shoot a movie on the MMC card, put the card in the phone and USB transfer from my phone, the movie works fine!

So this would lead to the camera being the trouble, but why does it have no problem with smaller files?

I'm very confused!

Regards,
Niels

Well, it is solved now..

I don't understand why, but without installing the Canon software, you can't copy large files from the camera. Odd as it is recognized and you can copy pictures and small movies like a charm.. There just seems to be a certain file size limit..

Kind of crap; I don't want to install software but anyway it works.. I can also vote against getting the 'basic' Kingston SD cards, they only write 2MB/s! I returned it and am getting a better Transcend 150x card which is so much faster and not more expensive..

I noticed this too but it works fine with the software installed
The software is pretty ok too, useful features
