Hi all

I have an FZ5 and have been trying to take motor sports shots with it in manual mode.

The available shutter speed goes up to 1/2000 but as soon as I go past 1/150 the shot starts to darken and at the top end of the range (1/2000) the shot is completely black.

At the speeds I have available the shots all have blurring on them so I really need to be able to use faster shuttter speeds.

I assume it must be capable of taking the shots so any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Thanks

You need to compensate with a larger aperture which I think this camera can't do. You could try adjusting the exposure levels.

Like the previous suggestion you need to also modify the aperture setting in this case you would want the lowest number possible. You also would have to up the ISO to around 800, upping the ISO will create noise( sandlike grain) to appear on the photo, some of that can be removed with software.

You have a P&S so some compromise is needed and in this case, I think its higher noise.

Just a starting point guide...

Shutter around 1/500
Aperture(as low a number as possible) F2.8(prefferably)
ISO 800

Dont be afraid to tinker with the settings!

Good luck!

I hope your user name does not imply that your trying to do this in the dark. If so you will be disappointed.

Thanks for your help everyone, I'll experiment later!

Mike63 - daylight is quite testing enough without taking to darkness:cool:
