Got my grubbies on a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, havent had a chance to have a good go with it but seems to be a good thing straigh up.
Nice weight and finish, centre pinch lens cap is great for when the hood is on, zoom and focus turn in the opposite direction to Canon lenses, but I suppose you get used to it
I will do some back to backs with the nifty fifty and the kit lens when I get a chance
Samples, no PP apart from downsizing and converting from RAW via DPP

The TAmROn is just about one of the best lenses ever produced for its size. Get a challenging evening-image and have at it, you'll see.
Enjoy the "sharpness" that seems to elude other brands. Effectively a "prime zoom."

Just wondering.
What makes the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 unique? Correct me where I'm wrong, but it looks to be a zoom lens (17-50mm) with a fixed aperture of f/2.8. Is it the price?
What exactly is the big difference if compared with the Canon Rebel XTi 400D's kit lens?

constant aperture zooms are generally a good thing.

The best proof of a lens' capability is to contrast and compare.
Find an indoor shot... something that has been ticking you off, because you simply can not get the lighting right. Slap on the Canon "kit" lens... take the shot... do the best you can to adjust to get your lighting... then... do the same thing with the TAmROn.
Personally... the fight was over with the first adjustment... not super ISO-settings or long duration shutter-speeds... just the fantastic appreciation of f/2.8 at 50mm ... two full f-stops of light ... or should I say, 4x the light?
It's pretty amazing what you can finally see ... at a reasonable speed ... and lower noise.
