Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. $ 500-600
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you?
Pocket size will be great but willing to go for a larger size for better quality and features
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you?
Does not really matter, 7+ would be good
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
I dont know enough to comment on this, whatever you experts think best
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
7-8
Do you care for manual controls?
Not really
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for?
Day to day usage, vacation photos
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
No
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Lots of indoor, many medium-low light
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Average amount
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
Flexible
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
At this point I have received two suggestions:
1) Canon G7
2) Canon A640
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Hi,
I am a newbie to Digital photography, or rather photography for that matter. I am currently a MBA student and travel internationally during my vacations.
Basically I want a camera that is sturdy, ease to use and has good features, e.g good clarity, storage capacity, battery life, flash, stabilization. I will be taking pictures of scenery, monuments, friends, random people, thus am likely to be in various lighting and movement conditions. I would also like a nice zoom feature if possible.
I am not budget constrained to a great limit, thus really want a camera that is user friendly and will last me for ~ 2 years of casual photography.
Also, if anyone has good recommendations for a store to purchase it from (I am currently in Philadelphia and need the camera by Friday 10/8) as well as suggestions for batteries/memory card/card reader and any other accessories it will be great.
Thanks a lot.
Andy
