Hey guys, I was at the Rodgers Centre (skydome) yester day to check out the Supercross. All the big names were there, Carmichael, Stewart, and the Aussie Reed. For those of you who don't fallow Carmichael is the vet who is only racing a few races this year as he is retired at 27 years old (look for him in NASSCAR soon). Stewart is the young gun who is crazy fast but very reckless, and Reed is the underdog who is consistantly on the podium.
This was the first race of the season. Great race, tons of leader changes and the underdog took the win with a solid performance.
I was sitting 11 rows up, this is Reed (22) and Carmichael (4).

Good to see Chad doing well and more importantly good to see more bike photos!
Looks like a challenging venue for light, what sort of readings were you getting?

While I give respect to Chad for being a great rider, hes still a sell out in my book. RC would have won if he diddn't clip a tough block while in the lead. Amazing he still came back to 2nd from 17th. I just cant imagine RC retiring, I don't think anyone can. Bubba is going to wind up crippled for life if he doesn't take it easy.

Thanks, oh the light was bad! and the exhaust was crazy. They left the dome closed so all the smoke just festered. At ISO 1600 F5.6 the camera was calling for 1/125 sec. I set the camera to ISO 800 1/200 and stoped the aperature all the way down. I had to lighten them up a bit in PS useing levels. Do they still look dark. I think my monitor is set too bright because I'm getting alot of comments about my dark pics.

Why is he a sell out? All three of those guys are in a completly different league than the rest of the competition. From what I hear Carmichael is moving to auto racing. The life of a motocross star is very short. He's just going into a less physically demanding form of racing.

Some C&C would be nice. Too dark?

Yeah maybe a half-stop too dark. Were you shooting at like f/4.5? Bloody tough conditions without superfast glass, amazed you got what you did (no dis-respect intended :o )!

Two more, you guys don't need to know the data do you? You know ss 1/200 F depends on the focal length and ISO 800.

I'm just hoping if I post enough of my garbage up here you guys will get sick of it and let me in on all your tricks!
I guess it's time to stop stalling and calibrate my monitor. No dis-respect taken at all. and most of my shots were around 4.5 to 5.6.
This is what the pros were useing. They all had flash units, but check out that guys set up. Has anyone seen anything like that before?

300 f/2.8 IS with what looks like a "better beamer".
I'm not yet convinced that flash is the way to go for sports these days when we have so much ISO power at our disposal, but it's personal preference I guess. Gimme a 200 f/1.8 for that sort of work anyday.
Well, just gimme a 200 f/1.8 period! :D
