Why the heck won't anyone respond to this?

I have a budget of approximately $400 and am seeking a camera that will fulfill point-and-shoot desires as well as artistic urges. I am not incredibly experienced in photography, but I feel that a camera with many manual options would allow me to grow. I certainly would be willing to read the manual and experiment.

I am trying to choose between the CP5700 ($150 rebate) and Powershot 45/50 or the A85/95. The size of the 5700 is slightly prohibitive, but if the camera is as good as it seems it would be worth it.

My question to the experts is, is it as good as it seems? Can the 5700 do point-and-shoot shots as well, or is it just too complex? Does the CP have the various scene modes that the 5400 and 8700 have? Is the bulkiness worth it, or would an S45 give me the same image quality and features (8x zoom nonwithstanding) in a pocket-sized format? Overall, which should I get?

I keep oscillating between the two cameras and cannot settle on one. Any advice that could be offered would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have had the camera for 6 months and still finding out that it does more than I know from reading the manual 20 times. I was into 35 mm SLR during the 1960-1980 period and then lost interest. I love Digital and from my 35 mm day's Nikon was king. I had a great Konica.

After taking 1700 test exposures with this 5700. I have arrived at two setting for all my shots.User Set 1 with "A" Aperture Prefered for all indoor shots with and without flash. "S" Shutter Prefered for all outdoor and "Action" shots. Both setting are at ISO-200. Going back and forth between these setting in User Set 1 is a couple of second when you get the hang of it.

The quality of the digital images have even amazed me comparing them to my 35 mm shots.

During my learning curve, there were times is wished I would have gotten a simpler camera but after training myself, I would buy the same camera all over again.

Good luck :)
