My FZ5 intermittently shows the white negation symbol
(circle with slash) over the flash symbol when I pop-up
the flash. Can you recommend how I might fix this?

I had thought that if the problem is dirty contacts on
a mechanical switch, I might be able to disassemble
enough to apply a spot of Color TV Tuner Cleaner to
clean and protect. I'd sooner pay for a new camera than
professional repair, but I'm happy with the FZ5 for now
if I can make the flash to work more reliably.

Thanks

Do you have the camera set on some scene mode? try setting on P or auto.

I am not familiar with the FZ5 but

you are sure you have not used the jog dial to forced off.

Actually, it seems to be back to normal now after I
have turned the camera upside down and opened and
closed and jiggled around multiple times the hinged
flash. I'm thankful for the reprieve.

No, Gene, the malfunction seemed independent of the 4-
way and mode selectors. It was as though a Normally
Open switch that closes when the flash pops up was
unable to close now and again because of a mote of dust
or oxidation on a contact surface. My FZ5 sits for
several weeks between uses, so a little oxidation on a
switch contact may be the explanation.

Thanks for your help.
