hey i am about to buy SOMETHING on saturday. just sold my 30d and am downsizing. the S3 looks like my obvious canon choice- disregarding the G7. The only other models are the Fuji 9100 or the 6000. which apparently has better guts- the processer and sensor both are newer than the 9100 !!!! nuts huh?
any way i may actually ostpone my S3 purchase. i started to see some weird trend: canon and nikon both are out of the pro-level P&S or all-in-one whatever you want to call them. the G7 proves this. the lack of a Canon IS PRO 1 type camera. i wonder if the S4 is going to take the reigns of the pro- P&S for canon? i bet it may have RAW and 10mps.
any thooughts?
if so i't be worth it for me to wait. painful as it is. i'll probably get a A710 to hold me over ;) no camera in hand SUCKS! LOL

Funny you should mention that. I just picked up my S3 a week ago and one of the first questions I asked the sales person was what is my trade in value in next 6 months.
The reason being I think they will be an upgrade to the S3. My reasons are the S3 is only Digic II all new hi end Canons are Digic III, Face Recognition, 10 Megapixels.
My problem is that I leave for vaction in 3 weeks so I couldn't wait.
By the way they give half back in the first 12 months at Henrys.ca.

I don't think you'll see the S4 with raw I think it's financially prudent for them that they cause you to step up in class. The Nikon D40 is an excellent example of how they are bluring the lines between upper end P&S and an entry level dSLR. and considering Canons dumming down the G6 and pro1 removal it's not a bad statergy.

i know. and that was EXACTLY what i am seeing. nikon 86'd their higher end digi-cams. Fuji and panasonic and sony are about it. on the good side the lumix and the sony have nice glass. but i think all of the companies should ahve kept their top of th eline with RAW and just make it a prosumer accesory!! gee..i 'm so smart LOL
You better get the S3 while you can. Following Canons recent "Upgrades" the S4 won't have RAW, it will loose it's tilt LCD, it still won't have a hotshoe or remote. It will get Digic III and 10 megapixels but be noisier and they will probably get rid of most of the buttons because they confuse the boobs they are marketing to.

Who cares about features? its got 10 mega pixel! 10mp = instant quality pictures.
Whats dumb is as cameras get more popular those who have been into it a while want more stuff. Canon did it backwards, they robbed all the stuff off the G6 because it didnt sell that many, we all wernt that good with cameras yet so all those pro level features didnt mean much to us. Now we have been using cameras long enough most of us are wondering about the features canon thinks we wont use.
The G6 was ahead of its time, hotshoe, raw, folding screen, faster lens these are all things that we are just saying hey yeah yeah i like that idea.

my thoughts are:
New Digic III proccesor.
better LCD
faster lens.
uprise in several Mega pixels, but defenetly not 10 (this luxury remains for G7)
support for new memory types.
better flash.
new accesories for the camera.
higher iso sensetivites, and better performance in them.

But by the time the S4 comes out the G7 will be 6 months old.

i think the S4 is where they will go. it is their ONLY resemblance of a dSLR now. Also since the G7 is basically a pocket P&S i think they decided to scimp on the G series. So i bought an A710 today since no point in getting the G7 for $200 more that's a waste of moola. but come the S4 i think i'll be the 1st in line. and i am thinking it wil be their pro P&S and even go RAW! ;)
the only otehr camera i wanted was the Fuji 9100- but since their 6000 has better stuff inside i said screw it and went simple.

I was thinking about selling my S2 and S3 here in a week and saving for an SLR or an S4 but some one just mentioned how the G6 went to the G7 you never know what they have planned.

Based on what is going on both with the latest Canon cameras and the industry in general, I think it is very likely that the S4 will be a 'dumbed down' camera compared to the S3. I think the market has spoken, and it has said that P&S cameras are for beginners, and DSLR cameras are where people go for the high end features. Not that I agree mind you, its just what seems to be happening.
It will definitely have the Digic III and probably more MP. But it will not get RAW or a hotshoe and the flip LCD will be gone, replaced by a larger static one. And it will probably be cheaper...
And..... Canon will probably also follow Nikon's lead and introduce a cheaper SLR than the XTi that will kind of replace the S3.
Just speculation, of course!

If and when this happens, the "S3" will be known as the "Missing Link" LOL
