Apologies for my ignorance. I have completely searched this site, but I still haven't really got a handle on add-on lenses. I am specifically looking for telephoto and wide-angle lenses for the A710 IS. Lensmate doesn't mention it or the A700, and I don't want to spend that much money, so eBay it is.
I would like telephoto magnification of at least 1.5x to 2x zoom, and I don't think wide angle is worth it unless the lens widened the view by 0.7x or more.

I just read the S3 lens comparison thread, and was impressed by the Sony telephoto lens until I saw the size and quality, it would be fairly ridiculus on the A710 I think, same for other nice lenses. But I may go that way if I can get one for cheap. I just measured my camera. It seems perfect for 52mm lenses, and the camera itself is ~68 mm tall. I don't want a lense+adapter much longer than the camera itself, so 125 mm or ~5 inches long put together, tops.

I have been looking at possibly buying one of the cheap lens kits for ~$60 to $80 on eBay, because it is an easy way to get lenses, adapters, filters, bags, tripod, cleaning kit and partridge in pear tree. Can anyone comment on this, would the pictures be useable even for viewing on a computer screen? (typical cheap-kit wide-angle is 0.5x to 0.42x, tele is 2x or 2.2x)

The other option is to cobble together lenses of random brands off eBAy. How well would this work? For instance, how easily could I fit an Olympus brand lens to a Canon camera?

If no one has any ideas I will get the cheapest lens kit off eBay. :)

That camera is easy to find lenses for, same with the A6XX because there isnt as much glas as the S3 and it is only 4 and 6X you still have a ways to go before it has problems. Try a few 2X lenses these should work fine on the 710.

Ive tried a few on my 700 and they worked good. The 1.5X seems to be the most compatable for most cameras because its a mild magnification. 2X needs to be really long.
