Great shots as usual Pete! #25-30 * are favorites. The shadow around her in some of the orange background shots detracts a little imo. Also, a few shots are cropped a little close - toes & hand cut off. That's being picky I know. I like the high-key lighting on the studio shots. Well done.

Pete- You've been posting quite a bit here and on POTN- How often are you doing a model shoot on average?

I always lookforward to your posts. I like #35 #39 the most. I'll agree they are croped a little tight in some. But very enjoyable my fiace even droped by to check them out and she gave you the thumbs up. I don't even get that much.:D

Thanks Dennis. I do have a thing about cutting off limbs... :o

Rich - I'm taking a break right now until after the holidays (may do one more shoot) but I probably average 3-4 per month. I still have so much to learn that the more practice I get the better. :)

Hey Peter!

Hows the holiday season out on the west coast treating you? Just wondering if you could speak about the edits on the first two, they look soft, but I'm guessing there was some sort of soft-glow PP done to them. I haven't had time to drill into the ones on your site but of those posted above, 4 is rockin bro - nicely done . . . very gorgeous model as well. . . Can you tell us how she likes her eggs? Mwahahahaha. Oh how very crude of me to say. . . shame on me. I was just speaking hypothetically, really! You know, whay if her car broke down, I mean she is an aspiring actress. Could very well be driving and tan '84 corolla that burns oil and has an iffy starter - thats all I was implying - honestly. ;) Sorry everyone - special apologies to Jacquelyn (beautiful name BTW) - I'm just bored.

So modest and humble. I don't know man, your stuff is pretty stellar already. If I wasn't working on a thesis for the next 5 or 6 months I would so come out and just watch, hoping the talent and creativity would ooze over to me.

I am curious though, how is it you come across so many models so frequently? Everyone you do seems to be an aspiring actor/actress or aspiring something-or-other. Word of mouth? Business card? Agency?

You forgot stunning good looks and a huge - ego. :o I get my models through word of mouth or on-line ads: craigslist and Model Mayhem in particular. And we had this discussion a few months back: everyone's a perspiring something in LA. :D

I have learned a lot this past year but everyday I see other's people's work that's so much better. In particular I compare where I'm at with what's in fashion and beauty magazines. But that's cool because it gives me something to aspire to. And for me, nothing has substituted for experience. 1/2 the time a good photo shoot is as much about dealing with people (the model, the makeup artist, the model's boyfriend or mother [yes they often bring them along]) and finding interesting creative elements such as locations/backdrops, as it is about lighting and f-stops. So I still have a long way to go but it's something to look forward to. I love learning and growing.

But back to you, what's your thesis about/for?

I feel bad for poor Jacquelyn for how off topic and unrelated we are about to go. But you are the thread starter and you asked, so here goes!

I am hesitant to say what my thesis is about just yet, since it is in the very preliminary stages (not even official yet) and may not be the one that I finally go with. But it will deal with my particular field of psychology (obviously) which is Human Factors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_factors), generally known elsewhere in the world as Ergonomics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ergonomics), human engineering, human engineering psychology, human factors engineering, and other such things.

Note: Has nothing to do with being a shrink or with peoples' problems! I suck at that. It's like a blend of design, engineering, and psychology whereby we take what we know about people (users) and apply it to the design of "things" so that these things are safer, more user friendly, intuitive, less error prone, etc. If you've ever used something that was so intuitive and pleasant to use that you never referred to the manual, asked for helped, or generally wondered how to use it, then some form of HF was likely involved. Good design does not happen by accident.

Hey, that's very cool and could be very interesting. Tonight I am activating/installing a new Pocket PC Phone Edition (Cingular 8125) and while I can't say it's entirely intuitive or that I haven't needed a manual, it is going smoother than some of my past Pocket PC's. I'm sure it's a fascinating field of study for you and one that bet could be quite lucrative consulting for large manufacturers of consumer goods. Do you speak Chinese?

Consulting is quite lucrative, when you've built up a number of years of experience! Though I don't think that's where I want to go - I'd feel too responsible for what happens since a lot would be riding on my recommendations. It's still a great paying field though even when not doing the whole consultation thing and just working in a normal job. But above all that, it's very interesting for me. It's psychology and engineering, both of which I like, without being way too much of either one. A little of this and a little of that in one package. :)

Oh yeah, and I don't speak anything except english. :( I went up to spanish 3 in high school, but can't hold any conversations or be a translator or anything. (the teaching could have been better).

We're getting way, way OT, but the reason I mention Chinese is obviously b/c of all the manufacturing going on there. Best of luck to you!

Pete these are as good as any of your other work. I'm actually quite warming to the ring-flash technique too. Well done again Mate - must be hard working with such beautiful women all day! :D

It's torture. ;) Actually Jacquelyn brought her boyfriend Corey along. Corey does HD video editing for Fox TV Sports here in the US. He creates the music video montages seen before a player is profiled, before commercial breaks, etc. He had his 17" Apple MacBook Pro with him so we hung out talking video editing and watching his stuff while waiting for Jacquelyn to get her makeup done (once again, more time spent in makeup than in front of the camera - jessh!)

Pete, did you buy a ringlight? the lighting on that first shot has some interesting shadows... BTW nice shots of a beautiful model!

I bought the new AB ringflash. http://www.alienbees.com/abr800.html They just came out with it and while it's a good first effort, they still have some kinks to work out (in particular, it's got a real hot spot at the center - difficult to get any kind of even lighting.) So I returned it.

what a cool job. i like editing video, but i hate the hours of renaming clips, picking what to use and what not to use, putting them in bins.

I did a shoot recently with a few other local WP friends of mine, and one of them used an AB ringlight. He actually put a site together with our favorite shots: http://www.thebostonmafia.com/

Under the picture of all of us, you'll see links to each photogs work. Jeff Newcum is the dude with the ringlight. Fun stuff for sure!

Even though Corey is only 22 he has assistants that log/organize clips/footage for him. So he just creates the videos. He used 50 Cent's music for one of the videos and 50 Cent liked his work so much he asked Corey to edit his next music video. So it shows what being talented can do for a person (I wouldn't really know about that :o ) even if you're only 22.

This series is great Peter. I thought the shots with her in the black suit were very striking.
