I love this place (this forum) :).

I've looked at the external flashes offered from Panasonic and their prices...

Now I need to make a Christmas list for my wife and I would like to get an external flash for my DMC-FZ50 camera. I'm somewhat of a novice, although I used an FZ20 for a few years before buying the FZ50.

Is the Sunpak 383 my best choice?
What do I lose by not having a TTL flash?
I cannot find a Sunpak TTL adapter for Panasonic; do they make a compatible adapter?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think ...but its not that I have tried any ..that the olympus FL36 flash should work and is about the same intensity as the 383......or the FL50 which is much more powerful but expensive.
Hard to believe that sigma does not have a dedicated flash for the Evolt which should work on the FZ50.

just to add
Olympus flash will give you TTL flash
there are probably options for Metz flash too, but maybe only auto flash
