I just got this new camera with the following lenses

Canon 28-90mm f/4.0-5.6 Lens
Canon EF 90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Zoom Lens

I would like to use this camera to take pictures of small pearls that i sell on ebay. are these lenses good enough to do so. I tryed using the 28-90mm lense and i cant seem to get as close as I like. I'm a camera noob but I though the 28mm meant thats how far I could be away from the object while it still being in focus. Not the case. Any suggestions on how I can take some good close up pics with this camera and lenses?

You'll need a dedicated macro lens (1:1 magnification), or at least something with a closer focusing distance.

You can use extension tubes to get closer.

Here's a quick photo taken with a 28-105 F3.5 - 4.5 and 20mm extension tube. ISO 400 ,F16, 1/125sec onboard flash.

Taken about 2 inches away.
