I made this last night

all you need is a Film canister (the translucent kind)
I used a dremel to cut
make a few and stack them on each other

cut the bottom off
cut a slit the length the case
grind or sand edges

simply slide it over the flash

in a pinch and forgot your stofen try this
sheet of paper around A4 size
wrap tight around the upright flashgun
with join toward the back
use rubber band or scotch tape to hold in place

light will still bounce (although restricted)
light is also emitted from the paper screen

not all that different from cdi-buy's effort

Yeah, although using printer paper only will waste a lot of light out the back. That's why you don't see softboxes with rear openings much bigger than the flash head itself. The inner stiffness of the one I rigged up is cardboard with glossy photo paper, shiny side forward, glued and curved. Helps throw light forward. Works for me at least. I'm pretty anal about inefficiencies.

A4 sheet situated sideways
will fit around my Metz 54, which is on the large size for most flashes
with quite some to spare, in fact there is about 3" of overlap
ofcourse thats double paper, and emits less light behind
but unlike a stofen, its open at the top, much like your design is

the foamy material used is very cheap and durable. I picked up 4 for a dollar at a dollar shop. Cut each piece in half and now I have up to 8 diffusers! It's also foldable and the material is perfect for bounce and diffusing harsh light. Sto-fen, Omnibounce begone!
