First, I would like to thank you all on your advice with the lenses. Was a great start.

Since my last post, I have purchased a Rebel XT (Best bang for the buck in my opinion) however, it has a very short warranty. Part of me thinks, being that when I use the camera most, traveling, I won't really have a place to repair it if it craps out on me, there is no point in purchasing an extended warranty. However, the paranoid side of me thinks it could break randomly at any moment (highly unlikely) so I should get an extended warranty.

I can buy an extended "Mack" warranty for about $40 for a camera that cost me about $505 dollars (go go ebay), but the question is: is it really worth it?

They really only cover failures that would be deemed on the manufacturer's side. I would think, if my camera were to fail, it would be under one of the accidents listed on that warranty as "not covered".

Anyhow, in summary, I'd like to know your thoughts on extended warranties for something that has already become very precious to me, my Rebel XT.

Thanks.

I'm always opposed to extended warranties.... I feel they are like gambling, in that the odds are always in favour of the house.

Good info here, if you want to do some reading...

At the time you purchased your contract we only had contracts that covered manufacturer defects, but since then we have released our new Diamond Service Contract which covers impacts, accidents, etc... Contact me if you would like more information.

Well I finally broke down and purchased my first extended warranty ever for my 40D b/c I felt so guilty about selling my Xt with so many clicks on it. Now, in 2 years or so when I sell my 40D, the lucky purchaser will still have two years of coverage.

I got mine here: http://www.compuplus.com/ps-products-mfr-Mack-comboid-656~.html?sid=yow5a585t1akz42

Scott - is this the Diamond Service you mentioned?
