Hi,

I am trying to purchase a camera as a gift and have narrowed the field down to these two. The person is a point and shoot type person, so no fancy manual control bells and whistles are needed. They also most likely won't be printing bigger than 8x10 so 3.2mp is fine. Compact is nice, since this is for traveling.

I am now just trying to buy the best for the value as well as quality. I know that the 200 has a bigger LCD but the 410 uses compact flash which is cheaper. Also, the 200 is smaller but does smaller mean better when its this small!? The SD100 has great reviews but a 2x zoom. Any other BIG differences that a novice photographer would notice?? The SD110 is much cheaper now since its on its way out, it makes it very tempting. I can go on and on....

I can get the sd200 for $265, the s410 for $305, and the sd110 for $200. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yo Jim,

I'm looking at some of the same cameras myself...

SD200 is smaller, has better movie mode, and is cheaper.
S410 has better image quality (so the experts say, I can't much tell).
CF vs. SD memory is very similar in price, I wouldnt consider that in your choice.
Don't know much about the sd110, I didnt consider it in my search since it has pretty much been replaced by the sd200/sd300.

My recommendation: The SD200. The new Digic II processor in this cam is supposed to be very fast. Movie mode is great for it, and its the smallest digital elph yet. I think the extra $65 over the SD110 is worth it because you ge the latest technology plus that extra zoom.

Hope I helped, good luck.

the sd200 is so much better for the type of person you are shopping for.
the s410 had its time. its clunkiness is readily apparent when carrying in your pockets. the thickness of the s410 is really its biggest problem when comparing to the sd200.
the sd110 should be crossed off the list altogether.

sd memory is really similar in price to CF now. i've seen 256mb SD cards for $25 now. even if CF is slightly cheaper than that, its not enough to be compelling.

the sd200 is so much faster and more usefull than my s400 was. i could not be happier to get rid of the s400 and get the sd200. best decision ever(in the camera world anyway).

sd200=best point and shoot for the money when factoring in size/image quality/usefullness

size=carry it more places (get more pictures)
speed=ready to shoot and repeat shots quicker (get more pictures)
price=$244 shipped via fed ex. i think that's quite a bit cheaper than the s410 is right now.

megapixel wars=lame marketing. we dont need more stinkin megapixels.
