I'm a newb, bear with me please!

Can such a small camera really be useful with a conversion lens, like a telephoto? If you get a telephoto does the A630 control it or will it be controlled manually with rings?

Bought one for xmas gift, now 2nd thoughts. Liked the rotating LCD, reviews good. But she might really want the ring control, and a slightly bigger box to handle lenses. Any other cameras about $300 that would work?

When you have a conversion lens, the regular camera controls for zoom still operate. The conversion lenses are just multipliers, for example a 2x converter would multiply the camera's range by 2. The A630 is 35mm to 140mm equivalent, with a 2x converter that would be 70mm to 280mm. Same for wide angle, except there it's a multiplier of .7 or so.

None of that will get you a ring focus or zoom.

this of it like a magnifying glass. You hold it infront of your eye you just get the same view but with the extra magnifying. If the camera can zoom in and out its all magnified by the front glass.

Its only really useful when you just need that little extra zoom. Sometimes you want just a tad more

The cheapest with manual focus ring is Fuji 6000 at about $400.
