There were some problems with Canon cameras being unable to do a low level format on 4G cards. The cameras are only able to do a low level format on 2G cards. I'm not sure which models this was supposed to be for. A high level format was OK, but not low level.

Do a search in the Canon forum, it should show up.

to be sure I'd just call Canon support and see what they have to say about the issue. It's a possiblity it may have trouble addressing 4GB. It low level formats a 2GB with no problems.

Just from experience -- I have low-leveled a Transcend 4GB with my S3 without any issues.

I like the transend. Is there that much of a improvement to low level format?

It just insures that all files are deleted including hidden one or files that the camera cant reconize or somthing else. I think if there is any corrupt files or allocations it formats them anyway. Can you have bad allocations on an SD card? i know its somthing on hard drives but not sure what it is actualy. I know they work different, hard drives are mechanical and memory cards are all solid state but i think they can still be damaged somehow.

It was discussed here several times:

I don't have any experience with 4G cards so I can't say, but the info appears to be accurate.
