1) What kind of photography did most of you begin with? Any specific reasons?
For example: landscape, night, portrait, sports indoor/outdoor, nature, macro, etc etc.
2) What kind of photography did you move to? and why?
3) Whats next? and why?

1) What kind of photography?
I started with the kit lens 18-55mm. It was used for my everyday shots. Mostly shot landscapes and cityscapes, mostly during the day. Also used this lens to shoot a few portrait shots of friends
2) What kind of photography did you move to? and why?
Will purchase my 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Its not the best lens for portrait shots, but its good enough, given its economical value and quality. I'm occasionally out on events and like taking photos of people that are around. The lens will be suitable for occasions like these.
3) Whats next? and why?
I think macro photography will be a lot of fun. I'd like to explore The World of Smallville. I'm especially more interested in insects, figurines amongst others.

1) What kind of photography did you begin with? Any specific reasons?
1A) When I first got into photography... as a simple shooter, it was to document my travels overseas, while I was in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club. No, inl;ike many others, I wasn't really into shooting other people's weddings or graduations, although I did a couple, I just wanted shots of some the grand places I had been priveleged to see and touch.
2) What kind of photography did you move to? and why?
2A) Currently, my photography has been evolving to people, instead of places (my travel is extremely limited, in stark contrast to my past)... but, I love creating fantasy images... using all sorts of props, images and backgrounds. It allows the mind to wander and conceive, without someone else's restrictions imposed upon me.
3) Whats next? and why?
3A) Well, since the skies the limit... how about telephoto cellestial images... through a telescope?
WHY?: Who knows what you might get a snap of?

I also started with the 18-55mm kit lens and started just shooting random stuff that I thought would make great photos. Trips, family, landscapes. No specific reasons besides that it is my first DSLR, and I didn't have a niche to jump into.
2) What kind of photography did you move to? and why?
I think I moved more towards the sports when I bought my 80-200 f/2.8 but also am getting really interested in portraiture.
3) Whats next? and why?
I think next for me would probably be a portrait photographer, either senior pictures, family portraits, weddings, special events, and maybe some type of photojournalism.

I started with paid wedding shots for the ultra rich and have evolved to crappy flower pictures and random stuff I want.
Honestly, if you only photograph by "type" or "thing" your missing out. A lot of the most boring photography I've ever seen is done by people who focus on that one single thing. Portrait photographers for example who think the F1.2 dof works for explaning "little susie playing on new yard equipment purchased this year" works even if you can't tell if shes on a slide or infront of a silver muslin.

Oooops, that doesn't fit the format criteria of answering the questions in the initial post. So your comment doesnt count :p :)

1. Sports/Action - i.e. Remote Control Cars, because I raced them.
2. Sports/Action - Anything that moves because now I have a better selection of lenses. This also helps with indoor/low level light shooting.
3. Well I just purchased a 50mm F/1.4 for even lower level lighting. The first stop will probably be the strip and nighttime concerts. My next lens will probably be a wide angle leading to indoor room shots, architecture, additional landscapes, etc. In other words, I'm not trying to limit myself to one particular area though I may concentrate in one area and "hobby" into other areas, i.e. Pets and Wildlife. ;)
