Nuffin special - and I rarely post in this thread - but it IS all Nikon - so I guess it will do.
New Cam, first test pics
These are growing in our back garden - loads of them!! Very nice
They are quite small and it was evening - so I used the Kelvin scale and
double checked the colour in the Live View to get it approx right (works well)
This is straight of the cam and merely resized

Agreed and since your post a new free update came out enhancing things further (including real time preview of filters alongside original image, colour masked areas and more) for FilterStorm Pro, contacted authors and they told me Custom ICC Profile support is currently planned for version 1.5 too.

Edit: Hah, as timing goes Nik has just announced a photo editing app for iPad**-
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/content_page.asp?cid=7-11622-11644

"The app features Nik's U Point selective adjustment technology with a range of standard image editing controls such as cropping, straightening, white balance, contrast, and saturation. Snapseed also includes a large selection of effects and filters from frames and borders to grunge to vintage film looks."

Welcome to the forum. For a person who is fumbling you look like you are doing a pretty good job to me.
One thing you should try to do is keep your verticals and horizonals vertical or horizontal. The first picture that you posted would look good just rotated a little to make the stand vertical.

For anybody interested this a 15 shot hand held vertical pano that was stitched together in Microsoft ICE then edited in Lightroom. I was only able to export with a vertical size of 6000 pixels because my computer kept giving an out of memory message when it tried to render the full size image for export.

K1W1 - Nicely done with this upright Pano shot
While I haven't encountered a memory message stitching -

Did my first proper photoshoot using my new (el-cheapo) 3-head studio lighting system yesterday. I was doing head-and-shoulder shots for a theatre programme, when one of the actresses sprawled out on a table for a laugh. "Take me!" she said -- so I did.

I'm still learning how to use the system properly, but it certainly makes it much easier to get a decent photo than using an on-camera flash or daylight.

Well, the exposure is a little better. However, as a photo it just has too much dead space for my taste. I say crop the Hell out of it. There is no rule that says your images must be a certain shape. ok, one last try to see if it works!

(sorry for the repost guys, I will go away once this is sussed!)

I would turn the image about 1 degree clockwise to make the vertical posts vertical instead of angled. It will improve the image greatly.

Great shot. When my son was playing U8 the whole team would have been in that photo.

Thanks K1W1.
I know exactly what you mean. Last year in U7 they all played like that, and to some extend they still did that earlier this season. Apart from a boy who was a soccer freak and always ran off with the ball I could hardly separate anyone else.
So for two seasons now I'm starting to get separate shot of this boy... LOL. I guess I can't be blame for lack of patience.

Is that a foul?

Hard to tell from that angle. It really depends whether the tackler is behind the other player or not. He's not holding the shirt so the only issue would be his position.

I'm new to this stuff....
Does that mean a leg sweep, or contact to the leg, doesn't automatically get a foul?

K1W1

Did the ref pay a penalty? I'd be surprised if he or she did.
Assuming that the tackler is coming from in front of the player with the ball (as I said you can't really tell from that angle) it looks like a legitimate tackle to me. Just getting your legs in the way happens all the time in Soccer.

Looks like a foul defender seems to be behind and his foot has clearly made contact with the ball past looks like obstruction but without seeing a video of the play it's really hard to say... But you can't impede the progress of the ball carrier in any way unless you make contact with the ball first so if he's legged him it's a foul.

Just a shot taken on auto mode, 18-55 lens.

Just like the capture of the spray...

How far is the ball in front of the attacker? He may well of kicked it before the contact at this angle it's impossible to tell firstly because we are at an angle to the play and have no idea about where each player is in relation to the layout of the ground and secondly we don't know whether the contact has occurred before or after the ball was kicked. All we do know is that it's inside the 18 yard box and if the ref was concerned it would have been a penalty from the spot so because that didn't apparently happen I think this is just one of those situations where a photo capturing 1/500 sec in isolation does not tell the overall story.

Okay I'll take your advice. It's up to you to post to keep this forum active from now on. The 35 posts you have made in the last 8 years will certainly keep this place alive and well. I wish you luck.

Gee, how did I know I could count on you to respond in such a humourless way? Lighten up for Pete's sake. Did you not note my smiley faces in the thread? Are you really that dour?

Give someone the benefit of the doubt occasionally. Laugh once in a while. Relax...life isn't that bad. Cripes, you must be a barrel of laughs at the office Christmas party.

It doesnt matter if the contact was before or after he played the ball you can't obstruct that's the rule unless you clean tackle which means contact with the ball then the legs the contact there is clearly happening with the ball past the defender but at that level the referees rarely actually know the rules (they are usually players or parents) and are usually too scared to give penalties because (some) of the parents go off their rocker

I used to ref under 16s and every second game I used to have to evict a belligerent parent for abusing me verbally...

My hat is off to the refs that put in so much work and their own time and yet have to put up with so many boorish parents.

Have they ever tried this in your league: Silent Soccer (http://m.ctv.ca/topstories/20110729/ontario-soccer-house-league-joins-silent-soccer-movement-110729.html) (fairly drastic but one can see why things have come to this extreme)

Thanks for the discussions. :)
There was no penalty for that incident and the boy being tackled was not hurt. It was a semi-final match between the team 1st on ladder against team 4th. It was a hard fought game but there were no boorish parents there to speak about. I just want to understand the rules a little more. Of course things might look worse on stills shots; I understand that.
Surely this one was a foul then?

Use the Advanced Reply. Click on the little paper clip on the right end of the top row of icons. When the popup window opens click "+Add Files" in the upper right. Then use the 'Select Files' button or the Basic Uploader option to find and select your file. Then click the Upload button and you are done.

BTW it is a nice photo. They must be only a day old or so. I have attached it in this message for you.

Went to Grouse Mountain aka "The Peak of Vancouver" last week. The view could be better if clouds didn't settle in. For now, I settled with the snow plow trucks on display. Five exposure HDR merged and tweaked using Photomatix, shot with D700 + 14-24mm combo.

500ml,

The HDR effect is a little obvious, but it works for this kind of scene. Gives the trucks a cartoonish toy look and feel.

I am greedy and selfish:p
The other Tammy I think I will keep as it is still at present my only 'macro' lens.
The Sigma I bought from a friend last year so I would have a long lens for the spring, not realizing I would buy the first Tammy early in the spring.
Still in the hunt for a longer focus Macro 150-200mm. Ideas anyone, speed is not as important as the longer FL.
