r3g was right! I used a CTO gel, but 1/2 instead of full. I may have added more saturation that's why it looked like a full CTO. But r3g definitely knows his gels :)

bignosehead, I used a nikon 85mm f1.4D on this one. I was on manual mode with these settings:

1/1600 sec / f1.4 / ISO 400

Cyberwlf
09-26-2009, 01:41 PM
It's the masks used by all members of the international group 'Anonymous' in their campaign to raise awareness against the cult known as Scientology, borrowed from the film V for Vendetta though. Scientology has been known to use legal and other means of threats to silence their critics, so it's used to protect the protestors from attack.

I got home from work at the 'paper and decided to put my D700 to personal use.
I got my 24" ezybox out and used a 1/2 CTO on a SB600 and 1/2 CTB snooted for my BG.
I didn't feel like using a tripod so I just held the Nikkor 17-35 f/2.8 at 28mm and fired away.

Does the balance look normal, a little too warm? I think on my wife who has white skin, the 1/2 CTO would be more ideal, I should try 1/4 CTO for naturally warmer skin tones.

I set WB to 4350K, also.

http://theobijuan.smugmug.com/photos/662652384_KPKHm-O.jpg

BTW, CLS is awesome! No cybersyncs or PWIIs dangeling around, and no constant adjustment of manual settings on the strobes.
All easily adjusted on the D700's LCD! I freakin love Nikon. If only George (D70FAN) had nudged me a little stronger back in 2005.

Nice shot. Your face is a bit on the orange side but not too bad. I wouldnt worry about which level of CTO jel you use. Just wing it and if its tooooo much (like in this case) just desaturate it a little in photoshop.

Photographically I'm not sure what your image is trying to convey:
- I'm tired of thinking for myself
- I want someone else to spend my money on stuff
- The idea of not being able to sleep with anyone else ever again really appeals to me

Nice high key shot N.C.F. Was it just window lit, or did you use any other lighting?

No window light at all, had gotten too dark. So I simulated window light by adding some fill from a umbrella on the far end of the room, and a more directional umbrella above the model and out of frame. Both with SB900's, fired with a D90 commander.

I blurred it somewhat. I really didn't want to spend that much time on the photo. There are car events every weekend for the next month and a bike fest that started today which runs for four days. I'll hit the bike fest on Saturday after PhotoShopWorld. However, Friday night I'll be shooting hockey. And back to the car shows, the only one's I am really interested in is the Barrett-Jackson Auction/Car Show and SEMA.

Meanwhile, here's a quick photo from last night. It would have probably turned out better if I would have remembered to turn the auto-ISO off. At least I caught the rollercoaster.

I agree with you there, the 50mm is fantastic when I get it right. But it's not forgiving if you get it slightly wrong. I've had to use continuous focus when using it on my young nephews as they constantly move. With a slower aperture lens I never had that problem. But I'm very thankful for 51 AF points.

For me it's just a hobby. I shoot quite some stuff at my student club, but I do all that for free.
I once shot a wedding party (not the ceremony and the formals, but just the party) but that was for family and I had never done it before, so I did that for free as well. They were happy about the shots, though, and gave me a good bottle of scotch afterwards.

here's another from the Smoky Mountains..

This is an 80 foot waterfall called Ramsey Cascades. It's so hard to portray how tall (and beautiful) it was in a photo.. I wish my wife would've gotten a picture of my tripod setup on this one.. it was on the side of a huge boulder.. One leg extended, other two retracted.. camera hanging of the side to get in portrait orientation.. SCARY!! But I was trying to get a tree on the left out of the frame.. lol.

The river Arno, it flows trough both Florence and Pisa. This was shot in Florence, a really nice small Italian city.

Small??

Sorry to be semantic about it, but Florence is by no means a small city, unless you're referring to just the metropolis/old city, but Florence itself including suburbs constitutes of an area of roughly 4,800 square kilometers and is home to 1.5 million people

Maybe it just feels a lot smaller then it is. Helsinki for example has about the same numbers as you just posted and feels 10x bigger, and Helsinki ain't a big city :).

The acutal city of Florence has 360,000 citizens which really isn't a lot.

This is one of those shots that looks great (to me) on my computer at home, but as soon as I upload it to flickr, the colors look a bit off and the entire image looks somewhat soft to me. It's frustrating, but ohh well! Anyways, this one is pretty much straight out of the camera.
Looks good to me, but I don't know what the original colors looked like. I do know that when I failed to convert photos to sRGB, the reds appeared flat when I uploaded them to Flickr; however, that doesn't appear to apply to your photo. Regarding the focus, to me it just appears that the depth of field is shallow.

Here's a photo I took Wednesday night outside of Caesars Palace/Forum Shops. Nothing really special--just playing with a flashless 50mm. I also added a couple of Mirage Volcano photos to my Flickr photostream. So backed up on photos right now--I still need to go through Thursday night photos and am headed back to the Barrett-Jackson auction in the morning as well as trying to hit a couple of other events. More events than I can even check out.

Is that so when you are washed off and your body is lost at sea never to be recovered the D700, lens and tripod will remain firmly in place with the long exposure running?
You should probably leave a little laminated card with the appropriate PP instructions attached. Mr Plod is not renowned for his Photoshop skills.

It must be Italy, it looks exactly like one of the Cinque Terre villages. I think Monterosso al Mare has a bridge like that through the village for the train. I looked on your Flickr page, and this was taken on the same day as your Vernazza picture, so it's definetly not France. Nice colours, by the way.

I think Explore has to do with the nos of Fave and Notes your picture gets, which are more imp then the nos of comments. Also a interesting Title/description and tags adds upto the chances to have your pics into explore, Geotagging also accelerates your chances.

Adding it to any award/comment group (like post 1 award 3 types) will kill any chances you got to be into explore :D.
