Budget
<400

Size
small-ish

Features

at least 5 megapixels (more is better)
at least standard zoom (more is better)
image quality: 9

manual controls: i'd like to have it, but i am willing to loose this feature for others and keep the cost low.

General Usage

mostly point and shoot, and some artwork, protfolio shots etc.

occasional big prints.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
yes, a fair amount

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
yes, some

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1

must have: image stabilization, sport mode (is kid/pet mode equivalent to this?)

(I was looking at Cannon A710IS, but i think i ruled that one out.)
I was looking at compact-ish cameras with as many features as possible, but these are not the most iportant things. i need the camera to be quick in term of shutter lag, time between shots (even with flash), flash warm up, etc. also the picture quality should be good, and not grainy.
right now i am looking at Canon SD800 IS & Panasonic DMC-TZ1.
which one do you think is better?
is the panasonic (which is cheaper) a good alternative?
which has better picture quality?
which is faster?
which has more options and capabilities?
which do you think i will be more happy with overall?
which would you buy?

thank you so much for the help!

i also started this thread:

Do you need a lot of zoom? If so the Pan TZ1 and FZ7 are the only small ultrazooms and their price is low now. If not, there are other small ones I think have better quality and features: Fuji F30, Canon SD's, Casio Z850. I prefer the A710. Why did you rule it out?
