Budget

Anthing up to £500 which in American terms, I think  is $850.

Size

Doesn't really matter

Features

Personally I would like a DSLR with the very best image quality money could but within my budget.

General Usage

I will mainly be using it for wildlife photography and some still life.

Miscellaneous

The only models that I have in mind currently are Canon XT and XTi, Nikond D50, Pentax K100D and Olympus E500. One long list.

Many thanks,
James

The Olympus is probably the only one that isn't really up to the high standards of the other models. It has a smaller 8 megapixel sensor, meaning the sensors are smaller and more tightly packed. That means it isn't as good at high ISOs as the others.

If you tossed a coin choosing between the XTi, D50, and K100D, you'd end up with a great camera. The K100D has image stabilization and can use a wealth of old lenses you can pick up for pennies. The XTi has a 10.1 megapixel sensor and canon is the market share leader, meaning you won't be orphaned. Canon and Nikon are generally thought to have the best lens line up.

If you can get to a store that has them all, and compare them in your hands, you can pick the one you feel most comfortable with. Since they are all great cameras, that is probably the best way to choose between them.

Good luck,

Clyde
