We are replacing an aging Canon S50 - looking for something with better quality images and reduced shutter lag and reduced time between shot lag. We did not want to buy a SLR because of size issues. We have a Canon EOS Elan IIe sitting on the shelf because of its size. Budget is not important.

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10) 9.9/10

Do you care for manual controls? Not much.

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for? Photos of the family, mainly indoor, but some outdoor.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? On occasion.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? Mainly indoor.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? Rarely - young children events.

Are there particular brands you like or hate? Like Canon

Are there particular models you already have in mind? Canon A640, A710IS, G7

A640. Bar none.

I agree the A640 is the best of these three unless you need the zoom and IS of the other two.
