good focusing camera

I am considering buying a new digital camera. One major use for the camera is photographing old archived documents that are at least 100 years old. I am considering buying a tripod but I want a camera with superd focusing. Any suggestions?

addition info, I'd like to spend around $300. Only other shots would be vacation type location shots. I have had Cannon in the past and liked it.

Canon A630 and Fuji F30 have good focusing, are $300 or less, have tripod mounts but they are plastic.
