I'm getting a camera for christmas, but I don't know which one to ask for. My parent's will let me do everthing but goto the store with them to get it lol

I have to keep the price no more than $300

I would like to get a camera that will fit in my pocket so I can take it with me.

I do need a decen't quality because I take pictures of my fish collection ( about 8 i guess)

I won't be making large prints, nothing bigger than a sheet of printer paper and mostly uploading it to the internet

Oh, for shotting fish photos, I cannot use flash so I if theres a camera that is good for indoor shots with low light and that sort of thing that would be great. And fish don't pose for photos so if theres something that can cancel out motion blur that would be a nice feature.

I realize that there probably wont be a camrera with all of the functions under $300 that will fit in my pocket, I'm willing to sacrafice size to increase qualitly but I still cannot go above $300. and if it can fit in my pocket I would love that lol

Thanks.

I've seen the Fujifilm F30 recommended often for great lowlight shots. From the photos I have seen from members of this forum, it does look like a good choice. The F30 also looks like a very pocketable sized camera.

Fish?
Is this good enough?

If you brighten up the tank, you will be better photo. That was shot with just a small fish tank light, I think not more than 60W.

Yeah, I can adjust the lighting if need be, I'm a little worried about motion blur though. maybe its just because I've only used older digital cameras though.

Motion blur is mainly from too slow of a shutter speed. At higher ISO you will be able to obtain a higher shutter speed to help eliminate motion blurring. High ISO shooting is another high point of the Fujufilm F30.

If you check the data on top of each photo, you will notice I use very high ISO (to 1600). The higher ISO the faster shutter duration and less motion blur. But higher ISO results in grainy image though it doesn't really matter if you only make small prints and posting on the net.
I suggest more lighting since with brighter light you can use lower ISO...

One thing though.... not all the shots I took were successful. As you probably know already about the motion of the fish.. and they seem agitate at times. Only if they stop for one full second it will make life easier for us. But overall, I'm happy with the success rate of F30.

i did go back and re-read it and I'm begining to understand the ISO thing. I don't have verry good lights on some of my fish tanks but I use compact floresents in my fishroom so that when I clean my tank I can simply turn off the powerstrip and pull off the light covers on the ceiling.

With my current camera it took about 30 shots to get about 2 decent ones (and that was concentrating on 1 specific fish) and people still comented about the detail so that is definately something I am concerned with lol

It definately sounds great for my current needs, thanks for your help

In fact, I have much better success rate with my F30. Only about 5 out of about 30 shots I made on the day have motion blur. The rest were in focus but I chose only the shots that have sharp focus on the eyes.
As RebelRat already mentioned about hight ISO capability of F30 but its image are clean as well; making it very useable high ISO.

that sounds great, this willl definately be the camera I get. Are there any functions like the color replacement on this camera? that would just be icing on the cake for me lol

I don't think there is any.

thats okay, Its not something i need. I found a website that sells the camera as a package with a 1gb memory card, case, portable tripod(doesn't look that great though), and a memory card case for under $300. I checked the "where to buy" forum here and it was listed as a decent place to buy from.

Thanks again for all the help!:D

I think the Canon SD800 has both My Colors and an aquarium mode. It's over $300 right now but may go down by Xmas.
