I have a D200 that I very much like & it is time now for me to get some serious glass. I already have a 24-120mmVR lens for a hackabout & a 50mm/1.8. My question is this. If you had the choice which would you buy, (all nikkor lenses),
1. 70-200mm/2.8 zoom with a 2x teleconverter as well.
2. 105mm/2.8 & a 300mm/4, obviously both primes.

I have done a good deal of review reading of all brands & keep coming back to these three. I would like to know why you would choose any of the above as this could possibly bring up things that i haven't thought of, cheers.

What do you want to photograph? Where's your interest?

Everything thats worth shooting, landscape, people, birds, sunset, beach etc. My preference is sharp, sharp & more sharp.

ALSO the last sentence above is the main question, it's your experience & opinions that I'd like to read of as thats the knowledge I want to know of. Thanks for your time.

If your main consideration is sharp, then primes are likely to be your best bet. For landscapes, you'll probably need a wideangle too. Of course, it does add up to more weight and bulk to carry your entire kit around...

The fundamental zooms are:

Tokina 12-24 f/4
Nikkor 28-70 f/2.8
Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VR

That should take care of about $3500, but, if you can affor it, worth the expense.
