I am the proud owner of a Canon PowerShot A80 4MP camera. The prints are wonderful off of this and the only knock I have is the I could use a bit more optical zoom. The digital does ok out to about 6x but then becomes grainy. I've noted that Canon has an adaptor and a telephoto (and a wide angle) lens for this camera. Before I buy it can anybody provide some real world experience in using these? What effect(s) (if any) do the lenses provide?

Hi,

All you have to do is to go to Lensmate.com. It is all there!

Oh, and I used to own an A80 with wide-angle converter. I thought it was great, used it a lot. They are rather expensive though. Don't use the digital zoom, it is crap!

I have a wide-angle lens that can be attached with a lens-converter to my A80. Its only good when flash is not required else a shadow of the lens converter will mar the foto :( when the flash is on. I guess this goes for all cameras using lens-converters. If perhaps, the flash was on the top, this might not be a problem. :o

The teleconverter lens is a must-have. I have the A75 and as far as I know, it uses the exact same teleconvertor lens as the A80. I really don't know what I would do without the zoom capability it provides. Take a look at the elephants I took a photograph of back in September (04).

It really brings the action in to you without being trampled. :)

*Digital zoom is for the birds.
