Hi all-
I was wondering if you had an external hard drive with a normal usb input, could you use the direct print/shard feature of many cameras to export pics to the hard drive through a usb cable.
Otherwise, what do most people use while on vacs. rather than laptops to store pics without loathes of memory cards.
Thanks.

There is a guy at work who transfer his images to a music/storage device called iRiver.
And there are many similar portable storrage devices around that's handy for vacation without the need of a computer. They are cheaper than image cards. Check this link for some idea:

I recommend you still burn image to DVD now and then for extra back up; just in case.
Try www.hyperdrive.com.
I have one of these. I can offload a memory card onto its internal hard drive. It's powered by AA batteries and as it doesn't have a photo display feature it'll never get upstaged by new file formats.
They are expensive and with the continually dropping price of memory cards, it might be better just to get a ton of memory cards.
There is also a device that reads memory cards and writes to DVDs or CDs.

I use my IPAQ HX4700 PDA for offloading pictures in the field when my memory card fills up and I don't have a spare.
I've got a little over 4Gb of memory in it.
I also use it to listen to MP3s, watch downloaded movies, GPS navigation (w/ Garmin 10 bluetooth receiver), surf the web, look at pictures, and play games.
(I love this thing...can you tell. :) )

Last August I went on vacation and took about 3000 pictures. I used my iPod to store all my files, but I had to borrow my friend's computer to do it.
