I noticed it says "Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi". Is that it?
Am I a wiener now? Is that something good? I hope it is... :o

Peter, that is an incredible set. What did you change about your shooting? The lighting looks perfect!

Yes - we have a wiener!! Wesan you shall forever be known as a wiener. It is good; very good. :D
Unfortunately, the XTi didn't stick (I returned it the next day - not enough of an upgrade from my XT to justify $800 right now.) So I am back to my lowly XT waiting patiently for next spring...

Great shots, as usual! I love how her eyes pop in #5 on this page. #34 in the site really held my attention, too. I have a question: did you intentionally crop out her hands in #74 - 76? They are great shots, keepers either way. I was just wondering. Thanks for sharing, you inspire me!
Keeps getting better and better Peter. Plus the model is quite attractive!;)

Thanks JM. I think it's just I'm finally starting to figure out what I'm doing. (It's only taken 1 1/2 yrs. :o )

Well most folks know my story: any talent I might have is the result of persistence and practice > Counting my prior camera (Panasonic FZ20) and my XT, I've taken nearly 50,000 photos in the last two years. Probably 2/3 have been test shots - "what would this light setup look like?" "how does this lens work" etc. Trial and error. Then studying the greats - on this forum and elsewhere - and lots more trail and error. :)

Since you are experienced with the XT, and used the XTi for this run, what do you think of the differences between the two? Setting aside price issues for a moment, and just going on the upgrades of the XTi and how they compare to the XT.
Nice shoot here, to be on topic ;) Nice eyes. Do you have any help in what they are wearing? Or is that all on them? Because the right clothes can really light up someone's eyes when they have particularly nice ones.

Hey loving the light setting.
Were you using any light equipment when taking shots of the model outdoors? Especially in shots 9 - 16?

I didn't really want to go there, but figured someone would ask. If I was buying my first DSLR then I'd also seriously check out the Sony Alpha and new Pentax K10D b/c of their in-body IS and similar pricing. As between the XTi and my XT, I think my XT produces better images (for the reasons mentioned below). I tried out the XTi was b/c I wanted better AF and thought since I already had the battery grip(e) for my XT, the XTi would be a better choice than a 30D. The XTi does focus better than the XT - but not by much. There were still several instances of front focusing/backfocusing on the XTi similar to what I get on my XT.
The biggest disappointment of the XTi was the built in dust buster. I'll let the photos speak for themselves but I ended up turning it off to save my battery once I saw how useless it was.
After the self cleaning ran probably 20-30 times (dust courteousy of Canon factory):

After using a $2 rubber blower bulb for 15 seconds in manual cleaning mode:

To me, the Canon dust removal system is a joke.
There has been a widely reported problem with the XTi underexposing images. I found that to be true on about 20% of the photos overall (but up to maybe 90% in certain lighting situations.) And its serious underexposure - 2 stops or more. While not great, that in and of itself isn't reason to trash the camera. But what I also noticed was - Canon's pronouncements to the contrary notwithstanding - the XTi produces noisier images than the XT. This shows up as typical luma noise in shadow/underexposed areas of the photo (most digital cameras, including the XT have some of this) but also as very noticeable chroma noise in the underexposed skin tones of my subjects, something I never saw on my XT. I'm assuming the underexposure issue will be addressed in a firmware update, but think that the noise issue is the result of cramming all those extra pixels onto a small chip. And speaking of all those pixels, I couldn't tell the difference resolution-wise between 8MP and 10MP, so no advantage to me there.
I also had issues with the Picture Styles the XTi uses. I couldn't get a sharp .jpeg out of the XTi. I set the sharpness to 5 out of 7 thinking that would be enough, but (focusing issues aside) the XTi never produced a photo as sharp as I get with my XT (I do use a sharpness setting of +2 in my XT but almost never sharpen further in the computer.) I haven't heard as much about a softness issue with the XTi as the underexposure issue (though I have heard some people complain about it) and of course there's the whole RAW v .jpeg discussion that could lead to different results, so don't take my experience as definitive. And maybe a higher sharpness setting would have yielded different results (I didn't try it b/c after one shoot I knew the camera wasn't for me.)
Finally, regarding the new LCD, I found it great for sharing images with my subject (and her boyfriend :) ) as we went along. But I don't think it's sharp enough to accurately judge focus and I also don't like how the camera info is displayed. Even though it turns off when brought to the eye, I still found the white background distracting between shots and think it's a battery waster. (I usually turned the display off between shots.) I think white letters on a black ground would work better and better still would be to display the info on only 1/2 the LCD.
Decide for yourself which camera is right but for me the only real advantage of the XTi was the slightly better focusing. And the negatives I found kind of outweighed that.

Relfector only. White foam core with aluminum foil (dull side) taped to one side. Lisa's boyfriend came with her so I put him to work. :D He did pretty well actually.

and i do agree with perter that the 400D is not as sharp as the 350D... and to an extent about the under exposure as well ... i really regret that i gave away my 350D and bought the 400D ... :(
