hey all, recently i was thinking about upgrading to a 30D from a 350D. It's very tempting with all the double rebates and all ( with $200 bones knocked off the 30D @ bh it's only $969). But what i'm wondering is should i wait until the new models come out with the rumored Digic III and the new sensors that are rumored to have an increased dynamic range? ooooooooooorrrr should i just jumpt on the great deal for that 30D... what would you do?

PS. i'm thinking of buying either the 24-70L or 24-105L so thats why i'm basing my prices on the double rebate.

There will always be a new camera or lens offering around the corner. Ask yourself, what does the 30D give you over the 350D, that you really need or like?

I faced the same quandry moving up from the 300D to the 20D. The instant on feature is what did it for me. I will eventually go FF, but I don't think the 5D is the one I'll go for, maybe its' successor; but then again, I am totally satisfied with the 20D.

My head tells me wait for a model with features I like or need; my heart says buy a 5D now. Somewhere there is a balance.

Mike- Skip the upgrade and either save the money, buy more/better glass and a decent carbon fiber tripod. Hold off on the tripod until the NYC photo show the first week of November- not that I know what's about to be unvailed :)

You might want to consider the 17-55 IS instead of the 24-x lenses that you mentioned. I bought one last Thursday from B&H for $999 (they dropped $100 to price match Beach on this). 30D was $1149 before rebate.

i wouldnt upgrade unless i really needed to. if your current setup is fine, better to invest in a good lens. IMO...

I have almost the same setup as you and I'm waiting. I don't think you'd find the 30D to be much of an upgrade IMO. It's a very nice camera but you've already got a good one.

If you have a need... buy what you need, but if you are just hacking around... looking for a deal on something new... I suggest you wait until Canon cuts loose with the new stuff.

Personally, I really do not understand why they blew off Photokina with just the XTi. That still has me scratching my head. Darn German itch.

Anyway... IMHO, it looks like the Photo-jocks aren't really taking that show seriously, anymore. Half of everything that was displayed was announced a month or more in advance... and stuff that should have been announced, wasn't. Very curious.

Perhaps the Consumer Electronics Show 2007 (http://www.cesweb.org/attendees/markets/imaging.asp) (jan 8-11th) in Las Vegas may offer some new toys, this year. Personally, Photokina 2006 has left me a little bitter and sadly disappointed.

pheeew... thanks guys, i started to think the same thing shortly after i posted the topic. I finally had some money saved and it being a whole month without purchasing anything photographic related... i felt that HAD to get something, anything. But i agree, i'm going to wait till Canon makes some substantial upgrades before purchasing a new body.
