Over what level of zoom do we start losing depth of field? I mean given a particular scene- like my previous post of the yellow/ white flower?what is the cut off point?

Thanks Forno.
I found a very useful link online dof calculator
http://www.silverlight.co.uk/resources/dof_calc.html

I found that at a distance of say 10 ft from the subject f8 and 300 mm ( as in my white/ yellow flower post)

gives a dof of only 0 ft and 2 inches!!!
no wonder that the dof was horrible!
so the best option is to go closer and not zoom when possible

Move in closer and zoom out wider to maybe increase DOF

Thats the quote I made in your original thread ... ;)

Krishna - shallow DOF is often a very nice effect too. Helps isolate the subject of your image, even if it's just a stamen or two.
"Is that your stamen? Or are you just happy to see me." :D

The shallow DOF as Peter states is quite often the preferred method of use in isolating the subject with detail.

on the calculator, I inputed my camera settings----what ever zoom, aperture I used into the APS area-------
Blue I agree and love the isolation of shallow DOF
Its just that I wanted deep dof on that and forgt and zoomed all the way in!
