when canon says... 50 for one lens or 100 for 2, does that mean 2 of the same lenses or what?? my guess is that it has to be the same lens.

No, it can be any item on that list. What's more, you don't have to purchase them at the same time -- just anything during the rebate period and with the same customer info.

hmm for the double rebates... i bought the 24-70 just now, and if i mail in the rebate now i get the 50$ back, but if i go buy the 580ex later i get the double, but do i get the double of the 24-70 too which is another 50? or should i wait and send both in at the same time?

When you buy two of any of the items on the rebate list... it DOUBLES the entire rebate.

Last year, it TRIPLED... I personally got $390 back for buying the EOS 20D, the i6600 printer, and the EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III telephoto lens. That was a nice check. It took six months to get it, but it still was nice. To celebrate, I bought the brand new TAmROn SP AF17-50mm f/2.8 XR DiII LD lens with it. Re-invest it, right? LOL :D

As far as separating the rebates... I don't think that would be wise. Usually you fill out ONE rebate claim... and both purchases, although bought separately and with separate receipts, have to be checked off on it. At least, that's my understanding. Perhaps they are more advanced than that, but I wouldn't bet on it.

They must be different lenses or items. If you get 2 items, they must be different, and you will get the double amount for each. If you get 3 items, they must be different, and you'll get double the amount for each. If you get 4 items, they must be different...
