So it's been crazy busy the last few months, and I haven't posted much, but this weekend I had off...ha, ha, not really. My FIL in central PA hired me to shoot a few of his buildings (he's a contractor). So I hit my friendly neighborhood CPS up for a 24 TSE, spent all day Saturday shooting buildings...
But on Sunday morning, it was my time, it was my time on Sunday morning....
So off to Lewisburg's historic downtown with the 24 seriously tilted!
NOTE: All shots are seriously photoshopped, but the DOF is exactly how it came out of the camera.
Allright, so I started playing with it a little early (one the way to the puppy Hilton):

OK, enough of the tilting already, how is it when it's not tilted...all "L" Baby!

Wow! I especially like the bridge, building, and three trees.
What do you mean by "tilt" though??

Thanks guys.
Repoman - the TSE lenses allow you to tilt the focal plane right on the lens. It was designed to give product photographers more DOF for objects not perpendicular to the lens. When you tilt it and photograph items that are perpendicular to the lens you get the cool DOF effect seen above...

I always see movie theatre shots like yours, but yours stands out. Nice work, I see you enjoyed the TSE lens.

Ok that makes sense. Very interesting effect!

Jamie, I can remember about a year ago when you spoke about wanting to try a TS-E - now it's happened!
It's embarrassing that I've had this lens for like ten years and never once even tried the sort of creativity you have here.:o
Great work. Whaddaya think for a wedding? A bit fiddly is my first impression but I'm willing to re-think that position after seeing this.

I like the second one (the trees) a ton.
By the way, can you see the effect through the depth of field preview?

Yes, even without the DoF preview in fact (if shooting wide-open).

Did you use a particular photoshop plugin for the photo with the bridge? Would be great to know how you were able to achieve this effect on the photo.
Great shot
hey jamie, really cool shots. i especially think #5 is bad@ss. if anyone complains about blown highlights i'm gonna go over there and beat them with their own camera ;)

I was definitely thinking of that Don, but the weekend was just too tight...drove down friday night, shot buildings all day Saturday, left at noon on Sunday... Maybe I'll have more time when I go back down for Thanksgiving...

I know...CPS is like a candy store, a very dangerous, very expensive candy store. I have the lens for another week, and will definitely be breaking it out at the wedding I have on Saturday! Now that I'm using room lights at the reception, I'm thinking of some cool first dance shots...

Nope, that's the clear blue sky of a New England fall through L glass...

Thanks Pete. I've played around with a couple of friends lensbabies and they are really tough to focus. The new model looks like it would be more workable (you don't have to re-focus between shots) but a pain to get there in the first place. And the little aperture ring thingies are a pain to change out. For $100 more you can get one of these: http://www.araxfoto.com/specials/tilt-shift-35/ (and I'll bet the glass is better). I actually have a bid in on an older Canon FD 35mm T/S, which I can adapt to my EOS bodies.

Great shot
Nope, just a conversion to B&W using my usual recipe, and a bit of vignetting. The DOF effect you see is how it came out otf the camera...that's what's so special about the lens!

Jamie - 'nother question: were you shooting handheld or does one usually use a TS lens on a tripod?
jamison55

These were all handheld. I did the buildings for my FIL on a tripod (those are too boring to share), but didn't really require the shift feature since they were all single story...
