These aren't too bad. Nice first out. Maybe up it to -1FEC instead of -3 though if you're only using it for fill. They look a bit dark. If you're bouncing though you can just slap it into M mode, choose the aperture and shutter you want, and in a small room the whole place will be lit up. I usually just set it n forget it in my house. ;)

Cats rock. My parents have 3 cats and they are all so unique in their personalities. Aren't they really interesting to watch, when they aren't laying around sleeping all day? ;)
I do like the first and second ones, but the third and fourth tend to be my favorites. They get interested and occupied with some of the most mundane and funny things sometimes. Although I've seen the look of that first picture many times and with our cats, it generally means they're up to no good. About to pounce, or stalking, or just intensely interested. Sometimes curious or on alert, but usually the first three. Whiskers and ears speak volumes.
And I see it's a tabby (characteristic "M" shape on the forehead). Beautiful cat! How old is it?
I like the pictures, but can't criticize them since I'm such a complete noob myself with dSLRs and picture taking. Other than the yellowness in the left half of the third picture (typical yellow light bulb? With the flash making the right side of the picture more normal colored?).

Very cute. Is he/she playing with a dead fly in the last two shots? (or is it Don's belly button lint? )

Thanks, I'm useing the built in flash and didn't like the look of the flash on any of the other settings. I hate flash that looks like flash. I didn't use a diffuser. I know I should get a flash unit. It's on the list :) any reason to get the 580 over the 430 other than flash output?

Thanks for the coments. Not sure how old she is. She was a stray that my fiance's parents found as a kitten and were planing on sending to the animal shelter. She's very well tempered considering. She hasn't clawed me yet so that's a good sign!!

I prefer dogs too but cats are so intresting. It's like having a wild animal in your house.

nice shots, but why ISO800?
It's just the best combination I could find useing the on camera flash. It was still the first time I really tryed useing my flash. I usually hate flash but I like the results I've got. Makes me want an external unit!

Same here. I use available light when possible but the ability to bounce flash alone makes a world of difference. I know now why when I was first considering an SLR purchase in July I was strongly encouraged to get an external flash.
Nick, you should definitely invest.

that and if you ever want to get another one you can use the 580ex as a master and the 430 as slave..but then again, you could get the 580 later.
i would imagine it would have more versatility for parties with larger ceilings...then again, i have no idea..i bought mine because i gotta have the best.

My cat does not claw, he bites, and I got scars to prove it:eek: He has been known to "attack" me, my dad, and my mom from behind without any reason.
Sunny is his name. You guessed right, his nickname is sunny the psycho cat:D Well, usually right after you refused to let him out after he has been begging you a while.
The biggest difference between owning a dog and a cat is that when you own a dog, you own the dog, but when you own a cat, the cat owns you;)
Nickcanada, your life will forever be changed when you let a cat into your house:D
In terms of the differnce between 430EX and 580EX, size is another consideration. 430EX is smaller, so you would pick 430EX over 580EX when you travel. I think either one is a very good flash to have.

Our oldest cat, an 18 lb. orange male, doesn't claw either. When you play with him, he doesn't use claws on any exposed body parts. He does bite though, sort of. It's not really a bite, but it's more that he's getting a grip on you with his teeth if your hands are in reach and his paws are otherwise occupied. There's no pressure behind it, so there's no broken skin, scars, bleeding or punctures or anything. It's good he knows the different between playing and not playing. The teeth are only mildly discomforting simply by virtue of how sharp they are, but there's no pressure behind it so it doesn't hurt.
Dunno where he learned that from (we've had him since he was 2 months old and he's 4 1/2 years now, so maybe my parents taught him while I was away at school), but we are glad he did. I definitely would not try it with our younger, firey little female cat. She's hell on paws. Tempted to share pictures, but I feel like I'm threadjacking as it is :p

The pictures are nothing special. This was before my dSLR, so they were taken with my mom's cheapo point-n-shoot back home. Plus the ages of these cats are at the time of the pictures, about July/August of this year.
There's the aforementioned big orange one; 4 years old, male. Then there's the little one with the pink collar; 1 year and 3 months or so, female. Then there's the little one with the purple collar; 4 or 5 months old, male. And the odd thing with that littlest one is the one little black toe he has on his left rear leg, all the rest are the normal pink.
The girl one looks all cute and innocent, but it's all a lie. She's a very mischievious little creature. She also doesn't like being touched all that much, unless it's by my mother, or when she's sleeping. The two males are both complete hams for petting and attention though. Go figure.
