Im looking for a high-grade point & shoot camera that is easy to use, but professional when needed.
I originally wanted the Panasonic Lumix LX2, but it has way too much noise.
I then went to the canon S80, but I feel like its going to be replaced fairly soon, and 8MP on cameras, although high, within a year will be considered "average"
I then looked at the new canon SD900, but the sample images weren't that impressive for a 10MP camera, and it isn't getting great reviews.

Im looking for a sub-compact, high MP camera (10 would be perfect, but i would settle with 8) that is easy to use & has advanced features when necessary, and is around $500.00 range. I print pictures every now and then, so quality needs to look good around 8X10 size, and just as good on the computer (around 2048X1536) Videos are a plus, but not a must.

If i ruled out all my choices but denying the only cameras that'd fit me, what ones (LX2, S80, SD900) are the best? Or are there others one i missed? I typically go for canons, because i feel nikons & olympus' are cheap feeling (excluding the SLRs), sony's & kodak's are more for play/teenagers, so im stuck with Canon, who ive always used, and panasonic, who im still sketchy about. Im not getting the camera until december-ish, so if any cameras are coming out that would be good, details would be appreciated.

How about the Canon G7? Might be what you're looking for.

In general, I feel 6MP is enough for 10x12 and even larger prints, but then there's cropping etc. Noise tends (or the effects of noise reduction - sometimes the cure is worse than the disease) to be worse when packing more pixels into the same size sensor.

Which reminds me, the Fuji F30 might be another one for you to take a look at - I have the F10 and love it for low light, and the F30 seems to improve on the things I find missing on the F10 (manual or aperture/shutter priority, better flash control, etc).
