Hi. I just started an online pearl selling buisness. I need to get a digital camera with a good zoom. I'm currently using a Cannon Powershot g6 and its just not doing the job. I need something that will zoom and give detail and easy focus on a small pearl. Also I would like something that could take close up video's as I want to include a video of each pearl being shown for more detail and realness. Any suggestions on what camera's would be good for this? Also have about $700 US to spend on it. Thanks in advance!

From your description an SLR may not be what you need. An SLR has very accurate focus and coupled with a great lens will produce fine still photographs, but an SLR will not produce video.
I would think your G6 would be very close to your needs, especially when used with a quality flash unit and maybe a slave flash or two. You don't necessarily need to "zoom in" on the pearl to get the detail you are looking for, just a good macro mode, and the G6 has a macro focus mode to allow you to focus on close in objects.
Take a look at Pekka Saarinen's gallery http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/list.php?exhibition=2 to see what can be done with a G series camera. I think you already have the camera you need.

I cant seem to get the marco mode working, and I'd rather get an SLR if it zooms and focus's better. My G6 just struggles to focus on the subject, and when i'm taking 10 pics of each pearl at 25 pearls a day I need something that will focus and snap quickly

Hey Pearl- There's no need to start multiple threads for the same type of related questions. It is a bit easier for us helping you to only have one place to reply to and not offer duplicate advice as you've been given in other sections.

An SLR will have better focus than a compact camera, but you may still have to do some manual focusing no matter how good the AF system. The Zoom will come from the lens you choose to go with your new body. Any of the current crop of DSLRs will satisfy your needs(with the exception of the movie mode). Look for a good lens to go with your new body, if you have to skimp somewhere, skimp on the body, a great lens will go the furthest toward image quality.
