Mr. Fedex just dropped my 70-300 IS. I went to take some test pics, and noticed a slight hum after the lens has focused, and I keep the shutter half way down. Its not bothersome, and I know this is a budget lens, but I was wondering if anybody else has noticed this with their copy. BTW, I'll post some pics later on, the weather here is very cloudy, and the light is not the greatest. I was able to handhold 1/60 with IS on at 300mm and got a pretty sharp pic.

Thanks for any input.

That hum is the sweetest sound you'll ever hear. It means your IS is working perfectly... ;)

I didnt even think that it could be the IS working its magic. BTW, it is now the sweetest sound i've heard after I saw some pics taken at 300mm with a 1/60 SS. I have to admit, that the IS pulled it off beautifully.

Thanks for the quick reply 24peter.

I meant compared to some other Canon lenses. I'd love L glass, but $1000+ lenses are not feasible right now. Compared to those, it is a budget lense.

Here's one more.

F/5.6, 1/400 ss, 100 ISO, 300mm, Canon "clear" picture style.

That pic was shot at around 9 a.m. here in TN. I used one of canons preset picture styles(clear). It did seem to put a blue hue over everything. Here's one with "portrait" style selected.
