View Full Version : S2/S3 + Telephoto lens. Sample Pics?
Does anyone have any sample pics of the S2/3 with a telephoto lens? Flickr, my usual find all, has a few of the S2 with the Canon TC-DC58B but they all look very soft to me. The only ones I can find of the Raynox DCR-1540Pro, which look better, are on a Panasonic camera. Would be helpful in my decision making if I could take a look at some photos! Many Thanks ;)

There are some on the lensmate site (http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/S2tele.html)....
Yes I know - would like to see a little more variety than that though! ;)

I was impressed and i bought the Sony VCL-DH1758 and this is my first shot using it, zoomed way beyond the 12x optical...i wanted to see its capability in the night, the picture looks soft though perhaps i was using wrong mode....i shot tht in night scene, screen shows 33x zoom.

Cheers for that - those shots of the moon look stunning! My interest is in sports photography so would really like an idea of how these lenses perform in that area... especially with regards to DOF as that's my current bugbear! :D

why not screw on the tcon on the adapter.. and before u place it on the S3, take a picture at fullzoom at a subject, then place the tcon on and then take another shot with that..

Because that won't work it always has it's own adapter connected to it. lol :D

Well truflip what would be different? As far as can be seen the shadow is practically the same. So relatively speaking they were taken at the same time of day and under simular lighting conditions of the same subject. Now since I took both pictures I can tell you lighting conditions were pretty much equal. And you can clearly tell there is a difference between tele and no tele.
Now that picture was taken for the very reason this thread was started, so I could compare the quality against the TC. I was lazy* I already had a bench mark pic. That I was happy with, until I saw how the TC just blew it away in that particular circumstance, another pic would not change the end result.
*btw... I did not have the TC when I took the original. and on the second pic (see lazy) . lol hth lol :p

actually I dont, thats why i suggested that you take a picture wiht no tele and shortly there after with a tele.. sorry but i honestly cant see a difference in zoom power between your non tele and with tele shots.. maybe its just me? :o

O.K. I see the problem now  The comparison has or had nothing to do with zoom power truflip, but it has everything to do with IQ. I used the term full tele figuratively speaking, did not mean to mislead you truflip. lol sorry for the misunderstanding. In other words no the TC was not at its maximum. If I remember correctly at that point you would only see the butterfly.
I'll do a power comparison just for you.;)

That's what I'm waiting for, a direct zoom power comparison between std 12 x S3 zoom and 12x S3 zoom with tele lens fitted.
Same day, same location, same subject, same distance to subject to get a true feel for the difference that the tele lens makes to the zoom power.
Thanks to whoever can post the relevant comparison photos.
Regards,

AFAIK, Tcons will give you a very slightly softer shot, than just the built-in camera zoom unless you have the focus spot on. I may be wrong though. But the increase in reach more than makes up for it.

hey looks good! its quite a difference between 1.5x and 1.7x! its a bit soft but the center is sharp. and its not like a circle softness type thing.. it looks more like bokeh so its not really noticeable! how mcuh was it? if convert to USD i guess.. i havent even gotten my wide angle n im alrady planning on the tcon >.< btw, the sony TC comes with its own adapter right? so u dont use a step ring wth your 52mm adapter?

Yeah, picture would appear slightly soft...anyway, I'm happy with it. I bought it for RM489 (malaysian currency) so it would be like about USD128. The Canon TC is RM504 which is about USD132.
Now, I hope someone would post some sample/test shots of S3 with Raynox DCR-1540PRO....i believe this thread will be able to help many S3 owners out there that ahven't bought the teleconverters ;)
