do you guys use all of the macro lenses or just one? the way they are rated is the focal power right? +1 +2 +4 and +10? is this the curve of the glass? how close you need to be or the magnification? Wich do you seem to use more?

i use the Raynox DCR-250 as you may have noticed. not sure about the +1 +2 +10 etc.. ive only seen that on the Hoya Macro set..

the raynox is flat on one side and curves on the other side. its a small lens so it vignettes at the wides angle.. but you will never use the macro glass at widest anyway.. with this glass, you have a working distance of 5inches give or take at full telephoto. you can go as far back as 7" (i think) if you zoom out to as far as the vignetting begins.. i usually use between 10-12x zoom so not too sure. hope this helps

DCR-250 is top of my wanted list. Just take a look at the examples on flickr ( search for DCR-250 and Canon S2 or S3 ) Stunning. Friend of mine has the DCR-150 and that's pretty good as well.

As far as I know, the Raynox 250 is +8. I have a Hoya +7 set which is pretty good and nice to have the different strengths, but I am thinking of getting the Raynox too...

I have a Tiffen +7 set (+1, +2, +4) that I just got last week ($17 used on ebay). They work pretty well, and allow you to use the entire zoom range.

They take a bit of work to get used to, and I think this applies to all macro lenses. The DOF is very small, which means your focus needs to be bang-on. It also means you need to use F8 if you want to increase the DOF. And the focusing range is small also, so you need to ensure the camera is the right distance away from the subject to get a focus lock. Of course, it depends on how many you are using too. If I just have the +1 on, then its pretty easy to use. If all 3 are stacked, then you get great magnification, but its kind of fussy.

You will NEED a tripod to get high magnification....

There are a couple of new pics on my flickr page which use them. Check the macro set.

Can you use the macro lenses on super macro?

I find macro on my S2 and S3 to be fussy, add a narrow DOF macro lens i can see problems.

I use Raynox DCR-250...it needs practise and to be honest, initially i was very frustrated with it till the fact i had the feeling of regret buying it......but as the saying goes, "practise makes perfect"...so i am slowly getting the hang of it and hopefully more GREAT shots will be on the way ;)

BowerR64, you don't use your S2-3 macro modes with the lenses. Just leave the camera in regular mode, so that you can use the zoom.

I have been using AV mode, and adjusting the aperature to control the DOF.
