well i've had this sandisk extreme III 4GB card for a while now and i'm sick of waiting for them to all transfer(usually about 500-800 pics(....usually i just hook the camera up to the computer through the USB cable. for one, i'll never forget to put the card back into my camera....which can be very embarrassing. and two, i'm lazy and it does all the work for me. but since the card is supposed to do 20MB/s read and write, i'm thinking why not? so do any of y'all know the FASTEST way to get the pictures on my computer? do i need to spend 80 bucks on one of these (http://store.lexar.com/?category=22&subcategory=1&productid=RW025-001) or can i get a fast download out of something cheap? just wondering...and what's funny is none of the card readers will say their transfer speeds...firewire or USB. now i know USB 2.0 is supposed to get about 60MB/s max and i think firewire is somewhere around 50MB/s max. anyone know which is better or know of a good reason why firewire would be better even though it is supposedly a little slower? now i know it will only be possible to get the 20MB/s of my card's max, but does anyone have any ideas of the best way to go or recommend a reader that will stay fast and consistent?
p.s. sorry about the book i just wrote.

I just use the inexpensive USB Sandisk CF reader _ works super fast.

Go the Sandisk 12-in-1 USB reader - it's the fastest for that card.
I use this combo and now I'm looking for even more speed - enter Extreme IV and the new Firewire reader at 40MB/s.

ok so i found some of sandisks that actually give the transfer speeds....and i found this....over $50 off what it would cost from b&h...extreme IV 2GB card and Extreme firewire reader for 167 shipped...USD. goes for 209 without shippping added on B&H...this reader supposedly does 40MB/s:eek:

but i also found a sandisk USB one for $25USD that'll do 20MB/s so that'll prolly be the one i get...from B&H.

haha i posted the above reply before i read this...thanks though.
The USB 2.0 specification is rather slow these days. You need to try a firewire reader. You will need a firewire card in your PC but firewire is a ton faster.

firewire is no problem...i got like 2 in the front and 1 in the back...it's just the price of firewire stuff. damn proprietary stuff.

It's not that expensive:

About $40!

But that's not were the bottleneck is. The cards themselves are only rated at 20MB/s, so there is still plenty of headroom in either format.

Upload speed is the only real reason why people should need ultra-fast cards - aside from those that use the 50mb RAW files from the 1Ds II etc.

Yep upload speed gives me the shits. ten minutes for a 4GB card is just too long.

Any logic to the idea of going with a USB 2.0 reader so that you can plug it in almost anywhere?
