So between Oct 15th and now I was having convulsions from not shooting anything so...

Bought an Elan 7n for 85$.

Any tips from you film shooters? I'm such a digital shooter...

I've got my 17-40L and 70-200 f4L right now (my god 17mm is wide on FF)

Buy some film :p

My favourite was AgfaPan 25 which is no longer made.

Try Konika, Kodak and Fuji for colour films. Kodachrome for slides and Ilford for B/W.

I bought some cheap kodak 200 gold film (6.49 for 6 rolls) just to try out exposure and some shots.

Will let ya know how they look tommorow.

The 70-200 really is a nice range on full frame, I was shocked how many shots I could fit in on wide end with it.

When I used film, my standard range of lenses went 28-50-85-135-200-300

With digital that's approximately 17-28-50-85-135-200.

I found beyond 24mm the effect was a little too out-of-the-ordinary to be acceptible. Most people just didn't like an angle of view that wide when they look at photos.

Well,

I had a roll of kodak 200 gold processed. Some things strike me to start, first of which is the total lack of CA in the images. Leads me to belive it is in fact sensor bloom not CA we're seeing in many of the fringing on digital.

As far as image quality, wow, ISO 200 film is relativly noisey compared to ISO 200 on a 20D. It's quite amazing in fact how many noise complaints are invalid compared to film.

I'll post up some shots I got when I get home.

I remeber a time when grain in shots was as creative as bokeh

surprising ain't it? i occasionally slap some lenses on a very old eos from time to time. and damn the viewfinder is so frickin huge! i can't believe i used to think 400 film was okay grain-wise

The grain adds atmosphere. I remember shooting with TMax 3200 in order to get grain into some photos.

Get some of the most versitile film ever: tri-x 400. Shoot it at either 800 or 1600 and push it in ilfosol-s (i think that's what i use.) Gives you excellent contrast and a visible yet tight grain structure.
