Greetings,

Its Friday today! Here is a Friday daily silly question;
What is spot metering?

spot metering meters the light from a small area rather than the entire image. It sets the exposure according to the area you metered from and only the area you metered from.

The question you should now be asking is why do I want spot metering?

From your post in another thread "Remember, it all comes down to lenses"
I'm going to put my money on it all comes down to light :)

It can be tricky. Your attention has to constantly be aware of it being activated. You can't just "point and shoot", unless you always exactly center your subject which of course is a no-no.

Remember too that color metering is also taken from this, or at least my testing seems to suggest this.

For some circumstances, it's wonderful. If you forget you had it on, it'll mess up most of your shots.

No way, Im good and all set with my Canon XTi 400D entry-level camera. I love it, infact it has all the good-enough features I need to get me going. :D :D

Stop using AWB :p.
If you forget you set it, it will mess up most of your shots too.
