I am getting ready to launch into pro photography and i have had the canon 350d for about a month now and I love it. the only problem is, the 400d just came out and its about 100 dollars more...is it worth stepping it up to that model? or will i be ok with what i have? please help!!

I haven't heard any side-by-side comparisons of the two models in use. AF is apparently better on the 400 but if you double-focus on the 350 then you get the same result so that point is fairly moot. 10mp v 8mp again is nothing to write home about. Quite honestly I don't see any advantage in upgrading.

dust reduction system...which doesnt seem all that necessary. a lot of people in these forums seem to be able to clean their camera just fine...

but if dust is an issue for you, this feature might be very convenient for you...

If you could return the 350 and not get hit for return fee I would.

The Af and the buffer is better, the sensor has anti dust which is nice.

I'm just a newbie of dSLR, but I did go to the store and "felt" all the cameras.

Just personal opinion, it feels pretty cheap for the 400D without the small status LCD, and the eye-sensor is sort of annoying to me. I also intendedly tried the shutter, it's obviously the same as 350D. so, i would not bother selling the 350 just for "upgrading" to 400.
But of course, the 400D is full of new features, new processor, new cmos, new dust reduction; so, if you really care about these new features (not really intrinsic to me), that's another story.

If you are going to be doing this as a living I wouldnt bother going from the 350 to the 400. You would be better of with the 30D or 5D.

What lenses do you have?

I agree with Tim. If you only have to pay a $100 fee to upgrade it is well worth it just in terms of the better Auto Focus system and the anti-dust feature.

For someone whose already a 350 owner, certainly not enough difference to take a beating and switch, but if you are just going into the camera and have an option- definately.

Thanks everyone..i bought the 350D kind of as a trial on it..and i loved it..but we are less then the 30 days return right now so we took it back yesterday and i think we are going to go ahead and order the XTi and try it out..i am getting ready to go into this as a full time deal..but still learning the ins and outs..so bottom line..if its only a one hundred dollar upgrade yall would do it?
as for lenses...i have the one that it came with of course then i invested in a Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III i LOVE it...someone told me at the beginning stages to buy a good camera that you are comfortable with and invest in lenses...then later on down the road look at something like the 5D.

Not to confuse matters, but since you are making a big purchase I thought it made sense to share this with you now.

The 30D is $1140 and will be having a $200 rebate come the 15th. This puts it just another $100+ over the XTi and you are getting a much better camera in terms of build quality, viewfinder, higher fps, and it has spot metering. It is a larger camera and has a much more substantial feel to it that you will notice immediately.

Here's a link to the fall rebates- http://www.author-works.com/media/media-19837.pdf

If you haven't actually held a 30D I'd really recommend doing so before making a purchase so you can see for yourself what a difference there is.

Enjoy shooting.. you definately made the right decision to return the 350.

i think anti dust system is very helpful for beginners in digital SLR world! this is my first SLR, and got some dust already after 5 months, and have to send it back to canon for cleaning and remapping and i will get it back after 2 to 3 weeks... i dont like the waiting period, cuz you really dont know what you will be missing at that time.... but the built is a different story, so yes, try to hold 30D, and you will know what exactly people are talking about 30D... built and feel of it compare to xti does make difference for several users, especially for beginners as well...
