View Full Version : a small thread on the lens of my canon S3 IS

I just received my new Canon S3 IS from Beachcamera.com.

I found that there is a small white colored thread of about 3 mm on the lens, which would not move away from its position.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of it or should I send the camera back to the beachcamera?

If you've already tried a blower brush, micro fiber lens cleaning cloth, and even a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a Qtip.....then I'd say get a new one.

Paul, thanks for replying.

I probably did not make myself very clear -- this thread is not on the surface of the lens that I can even try to wipe or blow away. It seems to be stuck between the pieces of the glasses. When I zoom in and look at the lens, the thread begins to look larger too.

PS: Paul, impressive pictures from your travel diary. Loved reading your sky-diving experience in Orlando. I've been wanting to do some sky-diving myself for a long time but I have not been able to gather the courage to actually do it.

I think you should change it for another one. Every store has the return policy for 15 days as I know, so it is better to ship it back as soon as possible. Last time I have one dead pixel with S3 and I change to another one without paying any extra fee.

I was able to take a picture of my lens with another digital camera. You can see the thread very clearly in these two pictures.

If you've tried to clean it off and had no success, the next step would be to contact Canon. They have good customer service and you should be able to get some sort of remedy. You'll probably end up sending it back and they will probably replace it since it hasn't been used yet.
