Hi everybody,
Two days ago, I bought a new Canon G6. I was happy. But yesterday night I faced a critical problem. I used 32MB Canon Compact Flash from Canon Powershot G6 Box. I took about 12 images. An error message "Memory Card Error" was displayed, then all images were erased. I was very angry, it was very hard to take these pictures. Does anyone meet this situation? I want to know if this is Canon Firmware's bug or CF Card's error?
Thank you very much.

Did you format the card before you first used it to make sure it was in a fit state?

Dear Ntlight,
For your information, I also recieved the same "memory card error" message recently. At the time of getting this message, I was using a 512 MB card from Kingston. I noticed that it happened at the time when a new folder is created and the camera would be saving new picture to this new folder.
This would be the second time that I got this error message. However, I did not keep detail of the first occurance.
Could this be the memory card problem? because I have another 512 MB card (from PNY) and it works fine after swapping out the card.
I am thinking about exchanging the Kingston card.
Please let me know if you still experiencing this problem.
Do you hear same problem from other G6 users?
Thank you.

I use Canon PowerShot G6 and I have 2 memory cards: 512MB SanDisk Ultra II and 512MB Apacer Photo Steno Pro II (100X).
I experienced "memory card error" with Apacer card from time to time but not with SanDisk at all.
I am not sure the Apacer card is compatible with G6 or vice versa (= Apacer is too fast for G6 or G6 is too slow for Apacer)
I know from the forum that G6 don't have any advantage with the memory faster than 14X. So my next memory card is 1GB SanDisk Ultra II.

to the original poster: get some photo recovery software and don't take anymore pictures on that card! most of the time the pictures aren't really gone, just marked as empty so another picture can be recorded over it. I'm not sure if it would make any difference, but i wouldn't format it either. just leave it alone until after you try to recover the lost pictures.
i've heard of many many kingston and PNY cards failing (more PNY). I will only buy Lexar and Sandisk cards as they have been proven to be most reliable. I have 3 sandisk cards and have taken over 8500 photo with them - no problems yet. that Apacer card should not fail from time to time, just once is enough! there shouldn't be any speed compatibility problems either. toss that junk away before you lose some really important once-in-a-lifetime photos to it! if you give it away then the receiver might come looking for you if the card you gave fails on them too!
