View Full Version : S3 - Occasional "recoiling" sensation when taking photos

I'm not sure if my S3 has been doing it all along or just lately, but this happens in like 1 out of 15 or 20 shots perhaps (last couple of days, I was just outdoors taking a bunch of random shots). I frame a subject (I always use the grid/histogram display), lock, and as I take the photo, I can feel a very slight "jerk" or "recoiling" sensation (it is slight, but noticeable if you pay attention) inside the camera and when I look at the preview, the photo is slightly shifted (not blurred in any way though) to the side. I can tell since I center something with the middle portion of the gridlines and when I see the preview, that part is moved over a bit. I'm holding the cam very still and also at wide angle most of the time when taking these pics. Do you think the culprit is the IS? Did anybody recently take a boatload of shots and noticed this?
TIA.

might be the IS.. try using a tripod.. with IS and without IS .. take the same shot.. but before u do that.. nudge the camera a bit so the IS coutners it.. and same thign with the IS .. it may blur depending on the shutter speed but the point of this test is to see if the IS nudge the picture a bit to the side..
i kno ive seen this happen before but in a way that.. i had it on the tripod.. very still.. nudged it by accident and of course the IS counters it.. but it kept counterring itself.. so it would bounce.. go figure.. lol

I had it happen to me but i didnt know what it was till some one on here mentioned it. The IS is like a gyro wich makes sence to me but i didnt really know how it works.
My problem was when its on a tripod and i move it really quick then stop on an object and let it rest there. It will wind up fast to counter the swift movement i just put on it moving to the new position then its a dead stop the gyro will continue the slow then stop. When it slows down and stops the image will kinda drop then slide to the left then refocus. Its weird but i understand why its happening now before i didnt know.
Turning the IS off it doesnt happen, wich it shouldnt be on anyway being on a tripod.
