Budget

roughly $500

Size

Doesn't have to be the smallest but I do like the sub-compact ones.

Features

How many megapixels will suffice for you?

6 seems good

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
Image quality is very important. I will likely be developing standard photo sizes and maybe the odd 8X10

Do you care for manual controls?
Not sure what this means. Would appreciate some nice features but don't want to be constantly changing settings.

* What will you generally use the camera for?
Taking pictures of family.

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Not usually.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Lots of indoor, yes.
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Not often.
Miscellaneous

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Was looking at Canon Powershot SD700 and Sony Cyber-shot, whatever the newer one is.

I'd look into the Fuji F30. It gets pretty rave reviews and appears to be the best point and shoot camera for low light conditions on the market today. Here's the full review with example pictures and everything!

Goodluck!
