I am new to this forum, new to computers, and new to the world of digital photography. I am sure that most of the people who will read have a much better understanding than I do of computers and pics. I have a fujiA350 and I have taken a few short video clips. I want to email them but have no idea if that is even possible. I don't know how to make them so they are not over 1MB. I don't have a CD burner, and I am not sure if I can just download them onto a CD or if a burner is necessary. I am using Windows Me. Any help would be appreciated.

Well burners are very cheap, a fast dvd burner less than £30 here in the Uk, and you could probably pick up a cd burner for next to nothing..

Many isps prevent the sending via email of larger files so you could upload the video to any of the few hundred free storage sites, then email the link to the people you want to have the video and they can download it at their convenience.

go to www.download.com and use a program called WINRAR. This program will automatically split the files up into 30 or so smaller .rar files. You can email the files to whoever you want. They will have to download winrar also and all they have to do is put all the files in the same folder, double click on the first .rar file and extract them to the complete movie. It is very easy and pretty much self explanatory once you have the program. You can get a trial version that will be fine for just one use.

Hi C.Whalen

You can email video clips to friends, however most people's email boxes can only hold about 10MB of data. Therefore if your movies are bigger than that they won't be accepted and will be sent straight back to you. Also if your friend's email box is nearly full it won't accept anything that fills it up completely. If you have a lot of movies you can burn them to a cd and post the disk to your friend.

re: burning disks. You will need either a CD burner or a DVD burner. A dvd burner will burn cds and dvds, but a cd burner will only burn cds. Likewise a cd burner can only read/play cds, whereas a dvd burner can read/play dvds and cds. If you go to your local computer store and buy a dual layer dvd burner, you will get some software with it. Nero6 is the current software that is available with most brand name dvd burners (Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc). When you get it home, take out your cd player and install the dvd burner in your computer. (Make sure the computer is turned off before you do anything inside it. The cd player and dvd burner fit in the same spot in the computer and you unplug the connectors from the cd player and put them in the dvd burner). When the burner is installed, load the software onto your computer. Then use NeroVision Express to edit your video clips and export (save) them to a file on your pc. You can add subtitles and headings and all sorts of stuff and it is a very simple software to use.

*NB* do not buy a LiteOn burner as it will cause you all sorts of headaches. Also check what software is available with the dvd burner you want to buy. If it doesn't have Nero then perhaps look for another brand of burner that comes with Nero6 or Nero7. I am sorry if this sounds like a plug for Nero but I have found their software to be reasonably reliable and easy to use.

Don't compress movies too much. The more you compress them the smaller they will be, file size and also viewing size, and the poorer the quality will be. I generally export my movies in high quality DVD mode, however that takes up lots of space and is not suitable for emailing. I would suggest exporting the edited video clip in SVCD (Super Video CD) mode. It is slightly bigger than the picture you get on a normal television and slightly better quality than a video tape.

The only thing that might cause you issues will be the speed of your pc. If you are running WinME I am guessing the pc is an early Pentium4 (P4) or a late P3 and it has a 1.5-1.8GHz CPU (chip) in it. With older slower computers it does take a bit of time to edit and export video clips. Small clips shouldn't be too bad but don't try to export a high res dvd movie on an old machine. It will take days.

Finally when you burn anything with your new burner, turn off the screen saver and don't have any other software running during the burn procedure.
