From what I have seen, the Canon is slightly better then the Sony. Plus you can't go wrong with a Canon (unless it's their entry level DSLR's hehe)

I almost bought the S3 myself, but decided to go the distance with a DSLR.

Don't forget to take into account that Sony Memory Stick is more expensive than SD cards used by the Canon. You are more likely to buy extra cards; don't you? And that $50 saving might be eaten up all the same.

You should fill out the questionaire for this forum and that will give us enough info to help you out. Without knowing what you are expecting from your camera, it's hard to recommend one over the other.

I for one am happy you did not fill out the questionare, they are a bit of a bother ;).

The Sony has 2 rechargable AA batteries + charger included if I am not mistaken. The Canon needs 4 AA NiMH + charger still, making the difference a bit bigger (between 15-25$).

For both you need to calculate in the addition of bigger memory cards, for the Canon that will be a bit cheaper.

The Canon has a great swivel display, to me that is its biggest plus compared to the Sony.

The Canon has a bit better software, especially if you have a Mac.

Well i want a DSLR like camera is all, i have a small portable nikon 7600 that i love but i want something with alot bigger zoom.
Batteries and cards are not much of a problem to me.
I just want to wich one is a better choice.
The main thing is taking 10x zoom pictures which ones are going to look better the sony or the canon?

You can't be wrong with any of those on your shortlist. It's the matter of which fancy you most and/or which one you consider offers more value for your money.

The FZ7 is smaller, but also a lot more noisy. I'd choose the S3 IS because of its great colour and its very nice swivel screen, and personally I love the panorama sequence mode on the Canon cameras.
