Alright here's the lowdown. I've got it narrowed down to three Canon's. The SD700, SD630, and the A630. I'm sure there are a bazillion other options out there, but if I start looking I'll drive myself further insane.
My Kodak DX7630 broke and I'm desperately wanting a new camera. I primarily use my camera to take tons of pictures at college. I occassionaly take pictures of my sister playing indoor volleyball/basketball as well as outdoor track. So being able to have some quality to the action shots in low-light settings is attractive.
Here are some general differences I read/found out
**the SD's have 6.0 megapixels while the A630 has 8.0 megapixels. However, I won't be printing massive pictures, so the 6.0 and the 8.0 wouldn't really make a noticeable difference I think.
**The SD700 and A630 have 4x optical zoom while the SD630 only has 3x optical zoom. My old camera only had 3x so again, more is nice to have but not a huge deal.
**The SD's have High ISO Auto which the A630 does not. I don't know if that is something good to have or not?
**I like that the SD's are smaller since I carrry my camera around in my purse all the time. However, the A630 is still smaller than my Kodak.
**I don't mind the lack of a viewfinder.
**The SD's don't have aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes while the A630 does. While I never messed with those settings with my prior camera... I'm still not sure if that is something to seriously consider having anyways?
**The SD700 has image stabalization. I never noticed a problem with having blurry pictures before, but maybe I'd be surprised at how much clearer they are with the IS. I've never experienced so I have no idea if it is worth the extra money.
**SHUTTER SPEED
SD700: 15-1/1600 sec
SD630: 15-1/1500 sec
A630: 15-1/2500
---Anyone care to clarify what this means, which one is best, and if i'll notice a difference in them?
**I'm personally a fan of the lithium-ion vs the AA batteries. The A630 has the AA while the SD's have li-ion.
**SENSOR
SD700: 1/2.5"
SD630: 1/2.5"
A630: 1/1.8"
---Again, what on earth does this mean and which one is better and how much of a difference will I notice?
**The focus distance ranges from 1am to 3cm. What does that mean and will there really be a difference between the two?
**What is an AF Assist Lamp?
Well, I suppose that is enough thoughts/comments/questions. I'm really hoping someone can help me come to a conclusion about which camera to buy because I really can't pick.
While cheaper would be nicer, if there is something really great about a more expensive one, that is fine too. However, I'd go cheaper if there were minimal or unoticeable differences.
I've found the
A630 to be $267.89
SD630 to be $302.99
SD700 to be $339.99
All help is much appreciated! :) Thanks in advance!
